Log into windows as admin, Sounds like you don't have serial/parallel port access

Click on my computer, Control Panel, Users. Make sure you have full access to your ports.

Did this same setup work before? Or has something been changed or added recently? If it used to work you may be able to use windows restore to a prior date that Jkeys worked on it, However you will probably lose some stuff after the restore date you select.

It's a fairly common error with XP, something did not register when it booted up.

Mine does it once in a while, sometimes it does not register a whole hard drive and I have to re-boot.

A re-boot usually fixes it. and he did say he had been using it with no problem for a while.

reboot won't help 'cause this has been a problem for me for about a month now.
i had been tagging without a problem for a couple of years on this system. and now nothing. as a matter of fact i had to move Jeepers over to an older system running ME for the same reason.

Sound like you lost a file or two then, maybe to checkdisk,

wait until it loses NTDL in the root directory, it won't even boot up without that,
I keep it on a floppy and put it back in whe it does because the only other alternative is to re-install the entire program.

Do the self repair with the install disk, it will reload vital files.
And just close it when it asks what you want to do since you don't know what you want to do and it's probably already done it anyway when it re-loaded the files.

Serial or parallel port jtag?, Serial is actually usually the J- Interface.

When did you add the login name to the computer

p port.
log ins were created when i got this system, so nothing has really changed except the upgrading of a couple of programs such as Easy DVD and the like.

See if your login will let you create another user on you computer with full admin rights, Then login under the new name and see if that helps.

Have you changed or added any printers etc lately on the parallel port?

Most likely not a problem, But go to control panel, System,Device manager, And click on ports. Make sure the parallel port is working properly and doesn't have a yellow exclaimation point by it.

well i tried the new user acc and got the same message.
i forgot to mention that when i shut down jkeys another message appears -
" Jkeys has encountered a problem and needs to close"
"we're sorry for the problem"
"please tell mightgrowsoft about this problem"
thanks for the suggestions but it's time to pack it in for now.
scout out. aye'll be back.

yes i have downloaded and used a completely different install of jkeys.
still get the same results.
going to try one other option that may be as simple as disabling my XP firewall.
if it works i'll post results.
thanks all, scout out

i thank everyone who had input on this problem.

ps: i most certainly will be back 'cause i like to create the hardest problems as soon as i touch this glorified calculator.

I still think you have some missing files and either need to do a auto-repair or a re-install of XP.

There are 10's of thousands of people using J-Keys with XP both home & professional with no problems with the firewall on and without changing port settings or going to compatibility mode.

With 30,000 or so files in windows XP you can lose many with only occasional problems, only a few are critical to the overall operation.

Save yourself a lot of future problems and format your boot disk do a "Clean Install"
This should be done at least once a year anyway to get rid of clutter left behind and speed up your computer.
