I live south of the border in the Republic of Mexico. A friend who just moved down here brought with him a subbed IRD he was using in the U.S. Everything works fine on his IRD. He also brought with him a subbed N2 card he received while still in the U.S. The instructions said he was to replace his old card in his 2nd receiver with the new card. The second receiver is still in the U.S. He did not do that, but rather brought it to Mexico for use as a backup. I have no idea what kind of IRD he still has in the U.S. for which the replacement card was sent. But, I do know the card has never been put into a receiver of any kind. Question: Do I need to do anything to my IRD (301.010) before I put the N2 card into it? If so, what? For instance, does CAM ID have to match IRD Box Keys before the card will work? If not, since the card has never been placed into a IRD, can it be activated without a telephone line attached to the IRD? I don't want to ruin the card, but at the same time, it will provide me with at least some TV here in Mexico until such time as Mili gets his expermentation completed. Looks like he's really making an effort to get something going. Any help is appreciated. Thanks. LocoMex

If it has never been in a receiver it should be blank.

They don't know what card you will put in what IRD. Some people get 3, 4, 5 cards in the mail and just stick them in random IRD's
There is a card swap process you have to go through to get the numbers from the old card to the new card.

Therefore it should take it's numbers off your old card and IRD.
He will not be able to take it home again it will marry your IRD.

These new cards cannot stay out of the stream for any legnth of time, they shut down if they are not updated regulary and have to be re-activated.

Thanks Smilingjack for the response. I think what you are saying is that the card will activate itself once I put in the stream. Another question......... I am using a MC1 for TV right now. I don't have any other card, except the subbed N2. If I put the N2 in my IRD and unlock the IRD so it can activate, will it affect my MC1 later on if I decide to try and use it. I know the N2 card cannot be used with a MC1. Don't plan on using the two cards together, but if the N2 does not activate, I want to be able to go back to MC1. Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. Any thoughts regarding this question is really really appreciated. LocoMex

NO it will not change anything on the ORD or the MC, just take the sub card out and use the MC.

Do not leave the sub card out or without power for more than a day or two of your friend will have to call and have it activated again.

I usually recommend thet people put the sub card in when they go to bed or work to keep it current when they are not using the MC

Good luck, Sj
