OK… I’m off to start a new project. I want to be able to stream video from my PVR-721 over the internet to view it on my EVDO Broadband enabled Pocket PC and be able to manipulate the remote. I have a video capture card to get the video into my computer. Finding software to stream it over the internet should not be a big problem. What I really need is some sort of software that will allow my computer to act as the remote and change the channels. I have an IR remote for my computer and it should be able to transmit. Anyone know of any software that will learn commands from a remote and transmit them. I have software like this on my PPC and it works great as a universal remote. After I get that set up, creating a web interface will be my next task. So between viewing a live stream and going to a website to change channels this should be possible to develop. All said and done I should have the power of my PVR-721 in the palm of my hand.

I found a site that shows how to create wav files from IR signals and then play then through your speaker jack into an IR transmiter. Should be easy enough to build one. Then all i have to do is write an web enabled app to play audio files on my computer. Getting there

eh, I don't want to run MCE 2005, cool, but not the direction I'm looking to go.

What I need is a CGI script so that when a user clicks on an image or button on a website, the computer hosting the cgi script plays a particular sound (Wav file). Thats all, real simple. Think anyone could help me out, i know nothing how how to wrtie cgi, but i can used scripts in the past and should have problem creating the site that uses it. Once I have such a cgi script. I can use the audio based IR interface and remotly be able to manipulate the remote through any web browser.

I'm running basically the same set up your referring to vmod. If you get it figured out please post the details of how you got it going. Never tried inegrating things as you are discussing, but it would be cool to do it. I can't figure out how your going to resolve the remote incombality issue. Ther'es probably a universal remote that will work, but I got no idea which one to go with.

I'm going to covert the remote comands into wav files through my pocket pc. It can learn any remote command and create a wav file from it as detailed in the link above. The when you play the wav file you use and IR LED as your speaker an poof your computer can emulate the remote. Now just to make a web interface with a cgi or pearl script to control the host computer and your in biz.
