I got a brand new 60" hd sony. I need to setup a box. I have a dishnet dish on the roof read to go (dish500 + another one at 61.5, both into a switch) anyway, I want to use an emulation setup with an hd box. I would like to have a DVR if possible, but I would also like to look at the ones without dvr. Also, will I need to do a vid mod or anything? I would like to buy a box (used is fine) that is ready to go and has tsop protection. Right now I have nothing but the dish on the roof, I need to buy everything else, I want the best hd options, thx!

HD channels were the first to go N2. That's the newest cam which by the way no one has been able to test yet. Show's you how popular HD programming is. Fewest sub's means first to be switched.

DN does now have the old VOOM channels. So it's your best bet for a sub to get something on that new Sony HD tv of a decent quality. As far as I know nobody makes anything that will record HDTV. Priacy issues may kill any attempt to record HDTV. In the end that may also kill HDTV. Only time will tell.

A work around for recording using a model 6000 HDTV receiver (which is hackable) would be to run a feed to a HD quality capture card in your PC. I like the PVR receivers, but since I pipe everything into my computer anyway, I went with a capture card and the cheaper receivers like the 301's....which are about my favorite to work with anyway. I have 500Gig's of starage on my PC. I can set to turn on/off with a timer and can set my receiver to tune to a given channel with a timer as well. It's a little more complex than a straight PVR, but it's about the same price, and once it's on your hard drive, it's already formatted for copying to DVD.

Course, at this point in time, there's still the issue of the HD channels all being N2.
