Dishnet, 2 years ago, 19.95 and free gear
Last year, 24.95 month free gear
Now 31.95 month use your gear.
What a ripoff. Personally, I saved my coupons when I purchased my gear new for programming at 12.49 a month, Until repaid for the cost of the units if I ever do need to sub.

Too much is unkown about this blocker card. I am not convinced it is viable alternative yet.
They already said you would have to pay $99 for support after 3 months. brings back bad memory's of the magic card. Hell we are lucky it is still even working after the douchebag magician screwed everyone by letting it expire and diappearing. Luckily someone else made a hack for the device. This blocker card appears to be made by the same people (at least physically and the description on the website is VERY similar looking to the MC. Do you trust them?
What happens when Charlie loops your card after detecting this thing?

Had basic sub when it was $19.99, then they raised to $22.99, then they raised again this year ($26 ?). That broke the camel's back. Cancelled the whole thing to get my money worth for the MC2 and Atmega I had bought, and will ride it to the end, which is near now.
Grabbed >1000 decent movies on SVCD in a year thanks to MC2 and Atmega, so I am set for years to come, no need for Dave, Charlie or B.U.D.
Wouldn't 'invest' more than $50 for any activation technology after the MC2 desaster - that was a real eye-opener to me.
Thanks for the ride!

Thanks for the votes and even more for the feedback posts, You all rock!!
Lets get some more votes and opinions.
For those, My story goes back to the F card DTV. DTV overbilled my credit card. Cancelled DTV. Subbed to Dishnet. Pile IRD 2700 with Rom 3 for 99 bucks. Connected it to the DTV dish and reaimed, IRD said signal, Gave asshole Charlie my credit card number and subbed, Got 6 channels on the full package. In a nutshell, Trees were in the way on property next to me, Could not get signal. Called Dnet and cancelled, Asked to send the 2700 back. They basically told me to fuck off, I own it. No return or refunds. Subbed for 15 minutes but was billed for 4 months later until I cancelled my credit card.
I thank Charlie for that as it was the unit I learned to fuck him back with, Nice open rom 3 with a jtagable IRD. This is all while the H card was running wide LOL.........
Had Dnet loaded up wide and always used DTV H wide, Then HU, Didn't even look at dnet for Sometimes 6-8 months at a time. Dnet was like a faithfull dog, Always there wide, No 721,745 etc. Best part is never needed a valid paying sub to read a image from for Dnet.
Personally, I could live without it. The only thing I like are having all the out of market locals, But we could put together a group to stream and share all those on the net anyway along with all the full programming.

If Charlie would offer a decent package of channels for a reasonable price, I might actually consider subbing. Personally, I couldn't give a crap about about getting porn or movies. I do like being able to watch my favorite teams when there's a game on.
The idea of pay $32 for his "basic" package is a rip-off. You don't even get the DIY channel for God's sake! Have you ever looked at what's included? Shopping channels, music channels, religion channels. Mostly bullshit that most of us NEVER watch to begin with.
Have you ever noticed that if you're watching a show and a commercial comes on and you switch to another channel, that there's a commercial on that one too? Seems to me like this industry (both cable & sat providers), as a whole, is double-dipping big-time! They get money to play commercials and they get money for subjecting us to watch them (unless you have TIVO). What a racket!
If Chuckles & Dave don't want me looking at their signal for free, then they should stop beaming it down on my property. I don't think that's an unreasonable request. Either that or they should start helping out with my taxes a little bit.
Well that's my rant. Thanks for reading it. I guess when thing go dark for good, I'll have to settle for the locals I can get with my antenna unless I get good programming for about $10 a month. Unfortunately, I don't anticipate that happening.
See you on the flip side,
lud

That was my exactly my point when I cancelled my basic sub after almost 3 years:
Nothing but Shop'N'Pray channels, that pay Charlie to be up there in the sky.
Not ONE ad free movie channel at all! We pay to see soap commercials.
When cancelling I even offered them ONE DOLLAR per channel and month if they let ME choose the ones I want! Technically that's not a problem for them. But their tiers are based on silly contracts with that fat lady and her big wig (TBN) e.a.! Can't fo they said.
I'd have settled on 5 of the basic 60, 9 movie channels and 492 as a mix, oh well...
They could have made $15 a month that way, now they get nada. Cool with me.
More than 1000 movies on DVDs to watch now, I am set for life!

I read under a post by a moderator here that the maker of the new Activator 2 card is going to offer 3 months free support(after purchase) and that the card has a programmed experation date (like the MC) which is restable but willl cost us. That gets to my question. How much will the support cost? How many months will that give a person? I am getting ready to order one and just want to know the total costs.
I have been extremely happy with milis pb and I know that this is a step in the right direction.
Thanks

i'm glad to see more folks here choose to move on with their lives instead of watching tv. again, charlie & dave, you two fucked up one more time. there ain't going to be any additional subs. you two better flip the bills for all those p4 & n2 cards. i think the last time i heard from the stock exchange, you guys are still losing money. yahoo.
just fyi, i used to have a sub until you charlie shit pissed me off. you lost me as a customer. now you are losing me as a test viewer. so i wonder how your cliients' programmings selling advertising?
i nomimate dave & charlie as the business world morons of the decade.
YES!
I just bought a Motorola box for cable,And subscribed to all the cable channels except the adult channels,Its a rip off $100 a month.I would sub to dish if i did not live in Canada,I don't like Bell.

It's no secret that the programming we're being offered is nothing more that a life support system for the advertisements playing. Testing for me has always been more about the tech challenge and tinkering more that the actual broadcasts. I could live with just locals if it weren't for all the talking heads describing the great progress we're making by bombing the middle east back to the stone age - but that's another story. No subscription for me. Thanks to all who've contributed.
Guess I'll read more.

I am not going to sub even after having full access to all PPV and all the fancy channels it is not worth it for me. Local programing is just fine as far as I'm concerned. These past few years I've noticed I've been totally clueless to all the local current events, this will give me a chance to catch up. I consider this testing as a sample of the dish programing and unfortunately I did not get hooked to it so even now I am not feeling withdrawl symptoms. In fact as soon as a turn the channel and see the pop up box telling me to switch cards before 8/31/05 I just flip to the local antenna since I feel lazy to hit the button AGAIN TO CONTINUE WATCHING.
Free TV is ok but it is nothing to write home about. If there is a good PPV movie I'd rather see it in the theaters on big sceen the way it was meant to be seen. The only thing I got out of this testing is that I got a chance to see those movies I would not ordinarilly see in the theaters because they sounded so bad. And when I did see them on free PPV I was sitting back laughing how glad I was I did not go to the theaters and spend my $10 on them.
I've noticed with PPV that the DVD's come out at the same time so If I really want to watch something I could just rent it out for about the same price maybe even cheaper. Of course if I rent them out and I like the movie you'd better believe I'd burn a copy of it and distrubute it freely.
Because I believe that if you are in the business of making software or movies and you sell or rent the original disk that info is up for grabs and that is the risk of being envolved in its creation. I do not believe in selling cloned copyrighted material but I see nothing wrong in distributing it. If you do not want your shit distributed then make it on something that can not be copied otherwise don't bitch about out.

Listen peeps, by subbing to dish, they win. Think about it. If absolutely zero pirates subbed because of the N2 switch... Dish would be forced to rethink their anti-piracy policies. But if they gain a bunch of new subs... then management can say... see... the millions we have invested in anti-piracy research is going to pay off.
Man, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this out -- anyway... go with your local cable company until a true hack is developed. Better yet... if you feel like spending money... send Mili a few bones every month... better to contribute to Mili and his research than Charlie -- the less Charlie gains from the anti-piracy campaigns, the less likely there will be campaings in the future.

I agree.
It is sad to read how many testers are now giving in and actually subscribe to this crap. So Charlie and his share holders have been right in the end, and will get more revenue and more leverage to raise the rates even more...
Too bad, I was hoping that more people would have done what I did: cancel the BASIC sub and walk for good.
Now that would have been a strong message:
let them have some fun as long as they pay at least for the basic shit!

 I have heard that netflix is pretty good. I wish Mili could start something like that with all the right stuff sports/movies/porn. Hell I guess we could all merge some money and start our own programming possibly using the internet or a mail type system or both. It would be really great to kick their asses. Maybe folks that come in on the ground floor with a certain size donation could get to keep their tv for free for x amount of time? Just a thought !

What he said :) I got ripped off for enough years paying through the nose for Canadian crap (mostly crap except for Trailer Park Boys). When B*v upped her rates in early 98 that was it for me as a paid subscriber. I'd had it long before that mind you because of the lousy programming and Canadian channels cutting over the US ones to air shows loaded with lame ass Canadian commercials (oh that pissed me off) but the rate increase was the last straw.
I figured I know enough about comps and electronics so why the hell am I letting myself get shafted? I will never pay a Canadian tv company again and I will never ever be forced to watch Canadian garbage for the rest of my life...I'll poke out my eyes first.

I have a three year old so even the basic bell Bev is fine because it has commercial free Treehouse ( preschool programming 24/7 ) so when he is allowed to watch, thats all the tv ever sees.
Not interested in subbing because the wife is Russian and having to pay 24.99 for two channels and another 24.99 for two more plus 5.00 for a total of approx 55.00 USD for 4 channels and no Treehouse is a bit much.
Grey market does sub sharing or can be done by calling Dish anyway ( I actually got a call back and they would have subbed me, (( called from a friends work )) even though I am in Canada, anyway same problem ,...NO Treehouse and the US has nothing like it .
Had 3 years of tinkering and exploration as well as good testing so will wait and see what happens.
BTW bell is increasing 3.00 in Jan for basic ( currently 25.00 CDN ) and 3.00 per theme so I will be cutting back on the package so they will get less than before.

I tried to sub and was refused. Living in Mexico with no TV is going to be bad. My wife and I are retired and we really need sat TV to keep up to date with the goings on in the US. I know someone will say learn Spanish and watch Mexican TV. I'm taking lessons, but I don't think it's going to happen. Something about an old dog and new tricks.
