hi guys,

I am trying to write to a 508. It has no jtag port and no resistor (r331). It has the GT chips.

I have done the single cut, 3 wire vidmod.
I have solder wires for jtag on top and bottom.

I have downloaded the 'newer' jkeys. If I select 508, I see the proper keys. That tells me jkeys likes the jtag wires.

However, I can not write. If I go into flash programming it does not understand the codes (2250 & 3150). It sounds like the jkeys was only slightly modified for the 508 (good enough to read keys).

Does anyone have a hint on how to write to this? Maybe a different jkeys.def ?

My goal is to change the IRD number. I know I also have to reformat the drive.

You may need to jump Oj1. I had to infact do this because I would get many errors in jkeys in the flash programing mode. Do a search for Oj1 and you will probably find a pic of the pads you will need to jump. I put a switch outside of the case, b/c when your using the ird, Oj1 pads cannot be jumped, only when writing to the tsop. hope this helps

When I started having problems writing, I did the oj1 jumper. However, that is not the problem.

My grief is not writing (yet). I can not sucessfuly enter the 'flash' screen. If my jtag was incorrect, I would expect bogus responses such as 'ffff/ffff' for the flash type. In reality I am getting codes for the flash chips but jkeys doesn't recognize them. I am unable to read/write or anything in the flash panel (all is greyed out).

Note that jkeys is not completely brain dead for me, it does properly read the IRD and displays the IRD ID and Keys.

I am guessing that the method to read the box keys is not the same method used by the flash panel, or maybe I should say that the flash panel needs access to more stuff and my jkeys.def doesn't have the correct info.

fixed it. I simply tried another laptop and life was much better. Flash written, hard drive zeroed, the rest is history.

i have gt chips in mine... best to use a buffed jtag... when u hook everthing up oj1 has to be on your vid mod should be off when ur ready to flash when u see that warning pop up turn ur vidmod on and hit ok... thats how i do mine...
