Hi folks,

I want to sub DTV from Canada (I have an address (mailing service) in the states and a social security number) but when I phone DirecTV: 1-888-777-2454 all I get is a busy signal. I tried several times at different times during the day.

Is this 1-888 only available from the States?

Is it possible for them to just ship me the equipment and then I can set it up myself or will they insist on sending a licensed installer out to setup the system (which won't work because I don't have a home in the states, just a mailbox).

thx in advance.

Ok go out and buy a long distance calling cards. One of those that you need to dial a phone number in order to use.Once you call that # then dial the 1800 #

I think your problem is 1) your calling the wrong number... isnt it 1-800-DIRECTV? not 1-888-DIRECTV? 2) Directv's number isnt avalible if you call from canada... like ^^^ said, buy a calling card.

I have a father-in-law that winters in Arizona ! He's willing to get me setup with DTV, how does this work ? He orders it for himself, then ships the equipement up here to Canada ???
If i get acouple more added to the acct, how does that work, like how do you do all this ? I use to get non subbed recvrs from the states, some made it some didn't!
Thanks in advance

you get him to call dtv, order... lets say four recivers with whatever channels you want. Then dtv comes installs them, once he has them installed and activated, he unplugs lets say...2, puts them in a box, ships them to you... You get them, hook them up to your satelite and remember NOT to plug in the phone line... and your running with dtv in canada.. simple as that...

i dont see why they shouldnt make it over the border... Just put them in a non-directv box. My system was from flordia, and was in the original factory box, I had no problems...

As long as you can get DTV in Canada, who cares when the show actually starts.

quick question on this topic,

What about using existing equipment with DTV. Can you still use the old gear with a virgin p4 card to get sub.

Yes old recivers should work fine, aslong as the reciver can get the preview channels from a *virgin* p4/p5 it means the reciver will work and you can go ahead and sub.

But why struggle with a old reciver's slow guide when you can get one of those new D10 recivers for like $5 on ebay... their sweeeet! my 2 cents^^
