This is open to all, a friend of mine has a bell system and someone has put a password on the IRD locking out specific channels, how can he overide this or cancel the password/lock ? If he cleans and redoes the card will it reset ? tks

Well this will work corrope the tsop and let it update in the stream and it will clear the mem of the IRD.
You can always do a hard reset...
Press
MENU
6
3
then quickly press
INFO
RIGHT>>>>
LEFT<<<<<
The last 3 tasks must be completed within 5 secs.if done properly you will see the Device Status & Memory Dump Screen... while on this screen press the TV/VIDEO button on your remote ... ignore the message that comes up ... simply unplug for 10 seconds ...
Have a read of this as well...

The password is in the EEPROM. Will corrupting to TSOP cause it to wipe the EEPROM and restore initial values including wipeing the password?
Just curious mind you. I've never tried it this way.
I usually jtag it and write a virgin image to the EEPROM. Or read the EEPROM and get the pass from the dump. And before you ask no I don't remember exactly where it is in the dump. :-)

that hard reset will not work on all IRD's and since he didnt say which one he has I made it easy for him.

As far as I know, a hard reset sequence as stated by Darnat should work for all IRD models.
FYI, corrupting a SAx address and re-streaming will not clear the PW...
