First I did an online chat and asked about using my own equipment......
I was directed to Customer Service. They said I could use my 301 as long as there was no balance due (we all knew that) Then they told me that if I use it I am NOT eligable for any of the special promotions they offer (that's probably how the're trying to spot those of us trying to keep carded receivers, Why else would we give up the incentives) Then what totally pissed me off was when they wanted my social security number ( yeah right!) So I don't see me subbing if they want to put my ss# in a database. That is way too much info, just for TV service.

This is my online Chat:

Dan:
Thank you for choosing Dish Network, how may I help you today?

StarG8r:
I am looking at dish network and would like to know if I can use my older equipment

Dan:
Have you had DISH Network in the past?

StarG8r:
No I have'nt had dish. My father bought a dish and receiver at a yard sale a while ago and I thought I'd use it.

Dan:
Would you happen to know the model number of the receiver?

StarG8r:
yes it is a 301

Dan:
Yes, you may use that receiver to set up with DISH Network service.

StarG8r:
How do we go about doing that?

Dan:
Were you interested in using your own equipment only?

StarG8r:
yes, if possible. I have a friend who has dish network who told me he can set it up. He has worked with dishes since the 10 footers.

Dan:
To set up with DISH Network service using the equipment that you purchased you would need to contact customer service at 1-800-333-3474 to find out if the equipment has a current balance and to activate the equipment.

StarG8r:
what do you mean by current balance?

Dan:
If the previous owners of the equipment discontinued service without paying there bill there would be a current balance on the equipment. The best thing would be to get in contact with customer service.

StarG8r:
ok thanks, are they available 24 hours?

Dan:
Yes they are available 24 hours.
