I have a friend in the USA (I'm in Canada) he has Diredt Tv. If I get him to order an extra IRD and hook it to my Dish. (I used to test Dishnet) will it work? Is there any downside to him?
Thanks

that can be done no problems.only precaution you need to take is make sure no-one plugs a phone line into the receiver. The other problem is I don't know how hard it is to pass satellite systems thru customs.I had some equipment seized and received a letter from the Rcmp.

Simply ship via usps and mark as electronics for repair. You should change your lnb and switch if using one.

Simply make the label say " electronics returned for repair" and ship with USPS. Declare value as $50.00 and you should be safe. I have moved lots from the US and never had a problem. For fun, have him repackage to look better. It would be stupid to send in brand new box saying its broken...

dtv irds are not illegal in canada just go over and pic it up and bring it back it is as simple as that, all the canadian goverment wants from you is that tax that it is owed on the product comming into the country. just clam it they will charge you some tax and you are on your way

Just go across the border with him and he orders it , then just come back ?
His address is in Arizona, the closet place for me to go into the USA is N. Dakota !

As mentioned above get them to send it USPS electronic repair..With a Value of $20 or whatever..If you go higher they might want to charge you customs fee's...
I've done it many times...

He is going to send it, but it's a 2 hour time difference! Is there anyway to close the gap on the difference ?

there are some receivers that allow you to change the time zone in the menu on the receiver. If you are lucky you might get one of these.
