The Dish 6000 receivers have an optional QPSK/8PSK module that can be added to them. What exactly are they for? I have been doing some reading and it seems like they are needed to receive any of the HD channels but it wouldn't make since to sell an HD receiver and have the HD optional.
If they are in fact needed for the HD channels, where can they be bought?
The module is inded for HD and is needed to get the high def.
The other port in the back is for OTA HD(over the air) to get you locals over the air in high def. e_bay has a shit load of them or used to and pretty cheap since HD went nag2 first.
If you get one from a dealer they are much higher.
The ole 6000 is my fave and running the PB with a VERY wide ppv string I did not have to change ID's on my cams for a long time using the ole Mili PB. These have not ben ECM'ed and the dolby plug on the back sounds pretty good to.
I had a extra 8spk but I cant find it or you could have. I do not have big ass HD TV.
easy to read BK's off of but they do get pretty hot for some reason.

i believe some of the later 6000 were released with the 8psk included, bev still does not use 8psk for there hd channels, i bought an 8psk on ebay as i was going to switch my bev 6000 to dish but it was around that time dish hd channels started going n2 so i never did, hopefully in the near future i'll be able to make use of it :)

That will be nice. If Bev doesn't need it then I will use that one to receive thier channels.

You'll need a JTAG to extract the boxkeys, that's really all you need, unless it gets ECMed. Regardless, I've created and attached a simple guide on how to build and connect a non-buffered JTAG for the 6000 for you. It's a PDF file, you'll have to delete the ".jpg" from the end in order to read it using Adobe Acrobat. Hopefully this doesn't piss off the mods, just trying to help...
Enjoy! :)

I`m still using a rom10 in mine. Getting the basics, some locals, about 4 HBO`s, couple of showtimes, and all the old VOOM channels. Plus I use the 6000 for OTA Hi-def. The basics, Fox news, Cnn, Weather, etc are showing a 9/28 nag. Voom and HBO are not showing nags, but could be gone anytime. I have a FTA setup for N2 as a backup until we get some kind of plastic fix.

i'm thinking of getting the new 811 from dish for HDTV and I'm hoping that there is some plastic fix for it in the future for the programming. Anybody have any experience with the new Dish HD recievers?

The 811 is a cardless receiver so you would probably never be able to test it. The 6000 or 921 are the only HD receivers that use cards and the 6000 is really the only one to test with for now.

It is too bad that Voom didn't offer some better channels. The Monster channel is nice to watch every now and then.
