Is anyone here using a FTA receiver with a TiVo box? On my TiVo, it has the capability of using a Pansat FTA receiver. Right now I'm loading my own guide data to the TiVo (not using their service) via Simplicity. If someone out there is doing the same, and is able to retain TiVo functionality, please let me know.

Thanks!

I am using a Pansat 2500a and tivo. I had to design a IR remote control interpreter using a microcontroller. I set my tivo to transmit dish receiver IR codes to the microcontroller. The microcontroller interprets the code and translates them to Pansat IR codes.
I believe that there are patches that install IR codes for FTA receivers into the tivo but I am paranoid about using them. Tivo is partnered with Dish and the tivo box reports every button pushed, channel watched, and guide surfing details the user implements. I don't want tivo reporting to dish my fta activities.

I would normally agree, but I don't subscribe to the TiVo service, I load my own guide data using a program called Simplicity (check out forums dot tivocanada dot com for details) and have the box hacked so it never reports or calls back to the TiVo mothership :) I'll have to see if I can find those FTA IR slices out there.

Thanks!
