View Full Version : Dish500, Twinhan 1020/MT 3.27 - no signal?

I see similar questions, but no real answers to this one here:
My Dish500 (110/119 with their dualLNB) uses a single coax cable to my 301-010 and all works fine.
If feeding the same LNBcable to the TwinHan (after importig the correct INI files to MyTheatre) I only get "locking..." -> "No signal" on all transponders.
Tried all kinds of settings for DISEQc ("simple LNB1" is supposed to work?), no luck.
Bad DVB card or bad user? Am I doing something wrong or am I missing something?
Incompatible LNB?
Thanks!

I had the same problem in MT. I, also, had the same problem in ProDVB 4.55 but when I changed the DISEQc switch setting to "1.0 or 2.0" that seemed to solve the problem. I recomend ProgDVB 4.55.

same prob, no signal found,
Total newbie...please help
P4 2.66
1gb DDR Ram
VP-1020a
Mytheatre 3.21
signal feed good with no SW switches. direct feed from single LNB (checked with a DN receiver)
Tried different INI files for Sat 110 echostar
What band : Ku-lin , Ku-Cir or C-band.
tried the DISEqC setting to "simple LNB1"
pushed apply, then select all, nothing.
What am I doing wrong..Please advise thanks
Does anyone have the INI file for DN 110 & 119 (and setting)

Try ProgDVB: hXXp://www.prog.vsi.ru/download/ProgDVB4.55.1FullInstall.exe
This should have your DVB card supported. After installation look at your device settings to give you an idea of what kind of DISEqC switch it supports. I had to choose "DISEqC 1.0 to 2.0" Also, ProgDVB has Echostar5 and 7 sat files installed. Good luck.

It was my understanding that you could not use the LNB's with a built in switch or any dish net switch (sw21 or dp21) you had to use a FTA DISqC switch

I have a Dish Pro LNB with a built in switch and it's working for me. I'm willing to bet that 99.% of all DVB software problems are with the DiSEqC switch setting. What program are you using?

ProgDVB seems to lead me only deeper into the rathole:
I found a complete set of instructions and files to use MyTheatre (ini, DLLs,..) and it just would not see a signal. Now with ProgDVB it's the opposite:
a little red meter is hovering around 5%, but the program requires to enter values for settings I simply do not have, so I can't scan transponders. Why does it "know" Echostars if it then doesn't know their polarisations, freq bands etc?
Sometimes the learning curve is very steep, due to sparse, contradicting or semi-complete information.
Anyone ever saw a setup tutorial for this Russian ProgDVB software and a Dish 500 system??
As soon as an ATMEGA (163?) solution is working I will probably jump 'ship', this DVB stuff just messes my PC up too much, and these DVB cards get hotter than any 15k SCSI drive I ever installed before - scary designs...
Any advice ? Thanks!

Make sure your sat and switch position matches. Use an already made channel list with all transponder and PID info. If using dishpro twin LNB modify the list accordingly. Load correct files and you should be watching TV.

IN ProgDVB LOF1=1125 switch=0 LOF2=11250
IN myTheatre LOF1=11250000 Switch=0 LOF2=11250000
There are lnb settings file in the public files section.
You need MDwrapper and KarsnalTM.dll

Here you made it easy for you.
LNB settings http://www.dssftp.com/filedownload/downloads.php?file=M2JmNTEwZTRiNxcoy6enVERbCIhHxm+ ZX8BxKjcxBMygkcwkpQ==
MD wrapper http://www.dssftp.com/filedownload/downloads.php?file=M2MwOWJiMTBlMp2UOtOk58PGkMETmW/VbdywxvSDyLOoZA/viNA=
KarsnalTM.dll http://www.dssftp.com/filedownload/downloads.php?file=OTdmMDgxZDNiMZVRjYtQaU0L0cX6Pny nxBSLH1OWQQymV4gPKHzN2+k=
For myTheatre
Make a folder called MDplugins in the same place where you see Plugins folder.
Then put MDwrapper in the plugins folder
Then put the KarsnalTM in the MDwrapper folder.
For ProgDVB
Put the KarsnalTM file in the plugins folder.

Did all that, still no signal.
The 8-12% 'signal' I see in ProgDVB are constant noise and do not change during transponders scanning, even if unplugging the LNB from the TwinHan. Signal should be 70%+ on transponder 'hits' to make any sense, right?
In the meantime I figured the ProgDVB interface, the DiseqC stuff and the transponders out, so it is probably not 'pilot error' anymore. The thing just doesn't 'listen' to the LNB at all.
After a lot of reading elsewhere I came to the following conclusions in my special case:
- PCI slot location is sometimes crucial for these DVB cards, many succeed by moving them; I cannot as I am using all other PCI slots and do not want to jeopardize my Windows 2kpro further; any new position triggers "new hardware found" and messes up the registry.
AND/OR
- driver collision with my video card that ALSO has a (TV) tuner built in (ATI AIW); while no errors were thrown at any time, I suspect that the ProgDVB actually 'sees' the ATI tuner signal, if that makes any sense; some warn to remove ALL other drivers first, can't do that.
AND/OR
- this brandnew Twinhan 1020 loaner card may be a D.O.A. card and is broken (well at least it gets hot as hell, so it must be doing something...)
The only clean way out is to build an entire dedicated new Win2k box around the DVB card. My spare PC is way too slow to drive the Twinhan, and I don't want to dump 100s of dollars into this rather obscure way of testing, as promising as it sounds (for now).
Thanks for the tips and ideas!

Gentlemen!! after reading the above thread I will telling you what I'm experiencing to give some enlightment on the 110 bird verses the 119 bird using the tiwnham1020 and MT. I have two dishs one pointed at the 119 bird and the other at the 110 bird . When I connect the cable to my computer to to dowload channels off of the 119 bird(satellite) no problems. When I disconnect from my computer and then connect the 110 line to my computer and follow the same procedure as I did with the 119 bird I get nothing . Now when I take this same cable line and reconnect to my Lifetime Ultra receiver ( weather it is the 119 or the 110 bird I get everything. My satellites are in a fixed position. FOR SOME UNKNOWN REASON I CAN NOT GET 110 TO WORK ON THE TWINHAM OR MY SKYSTAR2, BUT NO PROBLEM WITH THE 119 BIRD USING THE SAME STEPS FOR SETUP. Just thought I'd share this with you!! In looking at the 119 bird's dish it had a single LNB on it. The 110 bird's dish had a triple (3) LNB on it. I switched LNB's and now I get channels off of the 110 bird , but now I can not get anything off of the 119 bird which I use to with the single LNB. LOL I HAVE NOW SOLVED .But I was able to receive everything from both LNB's while using the Lifetime Ultra Receiver's but it would not work for the DVB card. CRAZY!! Have A Great Day!!

Hey boogie, try installing the DVBS software that came with your card. On the install disk there is an option to install the drivers. Then open up DVBS software, and then try configuring ProgDVB while DVBS software is running. This card is a PITA but it does work well once it's working. Keep us posted and good luck.

I'm going to give you my settings in MyTheatre because its what I use. I know this works at least with N1, as I'm testing N2 plugins and stuff now (cleaned it all out, fresh plugins dir to eliminate problems).
If you have a DishPro 500 first off you need to edit your ini files, all the Horizontal's need to be changed to Vertical's. You do that via the following method:
Take this # 25600 - the Horizonal TP Frequency for example 12231 = 13369
You change the line that says 12231,H,20000,5/6 to say
13369,V,20000,5/6 ok.
The reasoning behind this, someone else can care to explain to you, I just plain know it works ok. I just edited a freshly made ini file from Lyngsat to verify all the TP's and it is updating as I type.
So, lets continue on to the relevant satellite settings in the LNB/DIseqc area in MT
For Echo7 you want the following if you have a DP500 and a single cable coming from it (which you do, DO NOT PUT SWITCHES INLINE OF THIS CABLE, IT WORKS FINE STRAIGHT SHOT FROM THE DISH):
Echo7: Diseqc CSW-LNB1 (Committed LNB Slot 1)
LOF: 11250000, SW: 1220000 LOF2: 11250000
Import the ini file you edited previously for Echo7 at this point, and check your settings again, make sure its all correct as I put it above.
Echo 6,8: Diseqc CSW-LNB2 (Committed LNB Slot 2)
LOF: 11250000 SW: 12700000 LOF2: 11250000
Import your inif file for Echo6,8 at this point, and check your settings again, make sure its all correct as I put it above.
Now, you want to pick either sat and select all TP's, and scan. I have a total of about 700 channels that just got pulled in (I'm sure some are mirrors, but thats not the issue really at this point ok).
I know these settings work with MT 3.26 with MDWrapper and The Ker whatever the hell it is DLL in the MDPlugins folder, I can select plugins and see it available under MDWrapper, so everything is noted as being available in that regard.
Make sure you set your graphs, if you do not have some MPG codec's installed you will get no video. I have attached (or attempted to attach if it works that is) a MPEG2 Codecs installer that has all the Elcard, PowerDVD, and other codecs that Mytheater uses to display A/V.
Now with that said, my only guess is because your settings are fubared (your dish is aligned, you verified that with a 301) that + possibly missing codec issues, is your problem.
If doing the above does not at least provide you a good, solid channel list after scanning, then you probably have some conflict and/or a bad card. If it gets extremely hot, it could possibly be a bad card, I know they get hot, but obviously everything has its limitations.
Well, stupid thing wouldn't work for attaching, if you want the file, PM me your e-mail address and I will send it to you to help you out.
I'd hate to see someone give up a superior method for an inferior one just because ease of use initially, once you get things setup, you'll thank yourself over and over again.

Whoa, that's a chockfull of information, and surprising oddities indeed!
Thanks a bunch!
Yes, I DO have the twin LNB with a single line coming down the roof, and didnot know that polarities and other settings need also to be modified. So far I trusted the
published INIs (MT) or built-in settings (ProgDVB).
With a little luck I will get a blank loaner PC for the upcoming weekend and will squeeze the borrowed Twinhan in there - let's see what will happen. The original owner never even unpacked the DVB, so I couldn't resist to 'test' it for him.
Wouldn't call Atmega's 'inferior' though, these are trustworthy, uncomplicated reliable suckers, far ahead of the Magician's MCx and A2 crap. And they may have enough beef for one more round of decoding if we could just find a good knowledgable coder, One who isn't into making money, but will do the needed mods for the half-ass 'quasi N2' stream we are dealing with for now.
I am sure we all will look at black screens soon enough, Charlie hasn't pushed all his buttons yet, only on the 'rape' channels so far!

I don't doubt your last line either. Its encouraging, but I wouldn't go out spending money on something to try it right now, its just too "What iffy" you know.
Regardless, by inferior I mean this:
With a DVB, you got an instant DVR system, that records the MPG stream complete, w/o the compression issues that the STB DVR's bring to the table.
With DVB you have many options in terms of software (and trust me, MyTheatre is the best hands down, since I started using it, its been updated about a dozen times, I got my $40 worth from it with the features and bug fixes).
Again, if there's anything that comes up, and you got a question about it, post it here, or PM me, I'll help with what I can, where I can.
If you got the hardware, I'd hate to see anyone toss it aside when they can get it to work. I also have the N2 plugins working fine, with 4 different MPEG codecs in MT, so I can choose between which one looks best quality wise and its good to be back.
Best of luck, it sounds to me like you have all the necessary tools there, and enough know how to do it, it just seems like you got misinformation or a lack of information previously. Its not "plug and play" but its pretty darn close. If you get confused, don't be afraid to ask.

If you put that, line for line in a file, save it, and then import it into Mytheater, (and possibly others) you should be all set if you are using a DISHPRO 500 ONLY.
Some of the TP's did not respond on my scan, so I assume they are just not sending at this time, its not a huge deal, I have the 2-3 channels I wanted, the rest I could care less about for the most part.

Perfect, that's what I wanted to ask for, the 'hand carved' INI files for Dish500.
It "IS" confusing that the INI files are different for a Dish500 TWIN LNB than for regular direct LNBs watching birds 110 and 119. Apparently related to the integrated switch.
I learned that the heat generated by the DVB cards is due to their 18V 'voltage' pumps to drive the LNBs; they need to generate a whopping 400mA that way and push it up the coax wire, ouch...
Got the 1.3GHz XP loaner for the next couple of days and will give it a whirl with the 1020A.
I do agree that this is not the time to dump anymore cash into 'test' equipment, this N2 storm has to shake out for a while. My hope is that Atmega will get another chance (MC most likely won't), even if with limited tiers.
Thanks and cheers

Nope :-(
My original fear is about to become true: this VisionDTV Sat card "1022A" (that's what I see on its back bracket) is most likely broken.
I followed the instructions to the dot, verified that the TP freqs are OK after importing, scanned and got nothing. Both in ProgDVB and MT 3.27.
Just to make sure:
1) the SW values for 241 and 250 ARE different? I remembered them the same elsewhere?
2) in MT the last column of the TP list does not show the channel numbers as listed in the INI file, they are all '0', that's OK?
This is now happening on a dedicated, fresh HP 1.3GHz PC/256MB box.
Out of curiosity I measured the DC voltage on the coax from the 301-010 and compared it with the DVB PCI card: 19V (IRD) vs 14.4V (DVB), that ain't gonna work, to the best of my knowledge these LNBs need 18V to 'move'.
I read somewhere that PC power supplies could be at fault, but if two different PCs can't drive this thing (and it only gets 'hot', is this why they paint it RED??) then there is little hope, P.O.S.
Cuts my planned 'testing' weekend short before it actually started. Had all nicely set up in my basement office, oh well.
Patiently waiting for an Atmega128 fix, watching HBO...

Yes,
The SW values are different, the reason is, is that they are the trigger points for the switch, to switch from E6 to E7. You can TRY changing those settings, but if BOTH sats are giving you no channels, then you got a dud.
That, or as some have noted elsewhere, there are certain revisions of the 1022A that are just plain not compatible with testing for some reason. The 1020 is preferred, as there are I think revision 2 of the 1022A that have serious issues with testing.
If its showing in TPn as 0, then I think the importing of the ini file didn't work. It should show the # of TP's in the list.
For the far right panel, with the individual TP's listed, it should show the # of channels in the last column if your scan is successful.
If you have the ability, I would try another card if you can get your hands on one. I would imagine its either bad, or incompatible. Its gotta be one or the other now, because those settings work perfectly for me. So unless there's something differing here, I can't figure out what exactly it is.

Just to confirm my suspicion regarding the 'dead' DVB card:
can anyone confirm that a WORKING model 1022A (or similar) creates ~18V DC on the coax line to drive the LNB?
14V appears way too low, but then this is my 4. day in "DVB land" so I really don't have any references nor experience.
Thanks!

Disregard my stupid question regarding voltages: vertical polarization = 13V DC, horizontal polarization = 18V DC, duh!
My Twinhan 1022A does indeed provide either voltage, depending on the program/tuner settings. It just doesn't work with the Dish 500 system, period. And I am not the only one as I found out in other message boards.
I haven't measured its max current (how many mA on 100 Ohm?), but it will probably make no difference if I know.
That's all rather disappointing but a fact, glad I didn't buy it 8-) .
Back to my Atmega and HBO as long as it lasts..

IN ProgDVB LOF1=1125 switch=0 LOF2=11250
IN myTheatre LOF1=11250000 Switch=0 LOF2=11250000
There are lnb settings file in the public files section.
You need MDwrapper and KarsnalTM.dll
Hey sukh77, how is it determined that, for ProgDVB, the LOF settings should be at what you posted above? What happens if the defualt LOF settings are used? Thanks.
sukh77
09-18-2005, 10:39 PM
I'm not sure what LOF does. But if you scan without it, it will not pick up anything. These setting were posted in a MT guide that I had a long time ago and so I always used them.

[QUOTE=sukh77]Here you made it easy for you.
LNB settings http://www.dssftp.com/filedownload/downloads.php?file=M2JmNTEwZTRiNxcoy6enVERbCIhHxm+ ZX8BxKjcxBMygkcwkpQ==
MD wrapper http://www.dssftp.com/filedownload/downloads.php?file=M2MwOWJiMTBlMp2UOtOk58PGkMETmW/VbdywxvSDyLOoZA/viNA=
KarsnalTM.dll http://www.dssftp.com/filedownload/downloads.php?file=OTdmMDgxZDNiMZVRjYtQaU0L0cX6Pny nxBSLH1OWQQymV4gPKHzN2+k=
For myTheatre
Make a folder called MDplugins in the same place where you see Plugins folder.
Then put MDwrapper in the plugins folder
Then put the KarsnalTM in the MDwrapper folder.
when i import the 119 lnb file it ask me if it s khz or mhz
sukh77

Mhz, select yes for Mhz.
You also need keys.bin in the mdplugins folder along with karsnalTM.dll

well, i have the mt software going, so now i am testing progdvb, i am a glutton for punishment. i am getting some channels, working pretty good, alittle smoother that mt, but i want more channels. is anyone using a dp lnb with progdvb and have all the channels working. i think it is either the setting for the lnb or the channel setup.
sukh77, i used your settings, "IN ProgDVB LOF1=1125 switch=0 LOF2=11250", is that first lof1 supposed to be 1125 or 11250? that got my audio and video synced up correct, thanks..

i have a twinhan 1020a pci card and i currently am running it on progdvb,i get every channel from 110 and 119 but they all freeze or skip.the porn works fine though and when there is sports on it seems to work,im thinking maybe cuz its fast action and the card cant keep up with the slower viewing shows. i also tryed to get this to work in MT with a cracked version 3.26 but all i can seem to do is get all the channels to download and then i get nothing but a black screen, i am using a dish pro lnb and a 20" dish. if anyone knows what the problem can be pls give me some advice cuz iv been trying this for 2 weeks and i cant get anything to work well

There are three files that are in the public download section. Download and place them in your MyTheater folder. You will have to unrar them first.
plugins 09.24.05 mt.rar
mdplugins 09.24.05mt.rar
lnb settings.zip---this one doesn't need to be put in MT folder.
Rename the first two files to get rid of the date.
Since you are using a DP, you don't need any switches. Connect the dish directly to your DVB card. Run MT. Once it is open, right click on the black screen and select Settings--LNB/Diseqc. A new window will open. At the bottom/middle of the new screen there is a button that says Import, click on that and find the LNB Settings folder that you downloaded and select the 110 file. You will then need to change the LOF1 and LOF2 to 11250000. Then hit the Apply button to the left of the Import button. Now over to the right of those, click on Select All and then Scan. Let it find all of the channels. After it is done with that sat, hit Import again and find the 119 file. Do the same as before and then scan. When done with the 119, close everything down and restart MT. Now you can right click on the screen again and go to Plugins--EPG and see what is available to watch.

brian, how are u getting all your channels to work, what settings do u have in the diseqc windows? all the channels show up on the left, but when i click on some of them, the quality goes to zero and the screen just stays blank.
as for the mt thing, i copy and pasted from casemodgod's post above and created my own channel ini's, then imported them to mt. use these settings; Set the settings as LOF1 - 9750000 LOF2 - 11250000 SW – 1170000 hit apply, after setting each sat. you then have to click the diseqc button and commit the lnb's, click do now, then ok and apply after each one. 110 is first diseqc, commited lnb1 and 119 is first diseqc, commited lnb2, or the other way around, i can't remember.. hope this helps.

Brian it's not safe to post your email adress in open forum. You can PM each other. In PM you can share the email address.
Edit your post and delete the email.

You can post all your steps here. MSN isn't any better. This way other people can track your steps.
Try chaning the channel or try using a different graph.

ok i installed MT version 3.26(cracked) then i opend the diseq setting put lof1 and 2 11250000 then i chose diseq and commited 110 to lnb 1 and 119 to lnb 2 the apply then i imported the channel list for each got all the channels then i added MDplugins and plugins in to the MT folder and extracted them inside. then i restarted MT and still nothing but black screen

09-26-2005, 02:18 AM
Where are u importing the channels list from? Did you scan the transponders? When you scan does it show how many channels it found? Make sure the folders you extracted are not in more folder. What I mean with that is make sure the plugins folder doesn't have another plugins folder inside it. And same with MDplugins folder.

i scaned the channel list formt he lnb settings off this site it shows the name of each channel and everything like that is fine and when i click on any chanel it shows the name of whats on and the info of it but just black screen.i check the MD plugins and plugins folder i extracted and everything seems to be alright
sukh77
09-26-2005, 02:33 AM
There is no folders within folder is there. Make sure when you go to MT program folder then plugins you should not have any other folders in there.
MD plugins folder should have KarsnalTM.dll and Keys.bin
Plugins folder should have softcam.key, s2emu.dll and 5 MDwrapper files
brian_2005
09-26-2005, 02:38 AM
nope there all what u said in both folders theres only those few files and thats all, theres only 2 plugins folder in MT and thats the MDplugins folder and the plugins that i extracted everything else is what comes when u install it thats all iv installed there

i checked that method and when i change graphs i get a error msg saying cant load filters on every graph. Do you have a solution to this may they be in the wrong place or something?
Did you install everything. You have to select all the boxes maybe when doing the install. Do you have cyberlink powerdvd software. If you have that then the cyberlink graph should work, also try auto graph setting.
