Hey guys,

I actually have an exrtra older P3 800Mhz computer I used for Emulation on DTV years ago. I was wondering if that will work for this DVB card(Kworld KW-DVBS100) effectively? I also have an extra laptop that is a 1.8 Ghz with 1 gig of memeory. but I would need a USB card I guess for that.

I am just wondering if this will work or what will I need minimum to run this.

Thanks in advance!

u will also need a special card
nexus or
Twinhan Vision Plus PCI Card
no laptop stuff. :)

Depends on the DVB card you get. The nicer, more expensive DVB's, like the Hauppauge Nexus, do all the processing on the card, so very little system resources are needed. The cheaper the card, the more your system will have to compensate.

So would a DVB setup run smoothly on my 550mhz system if used a Nexus-S?

Read the specs for the cards.... Every card has it's own specs...

The K-World is a Twinhan clone, 800Mhz P3 is gonna be pushing it IMO. It'd defiinately take 100% CPU w/o a doubt.

Try it, if it don't work, then you know. But off the top of my head, I'd be skeptical that it would, 1Ghz minimum personally.

Maybe OC it a bit see if that helps?
If its a P3-800 100FSB, you should easily be able to get 1Ghz outta it, those P3 chips were so much fun to overclock.
I had a P3-600 @ 1Ghz for the longest time, it never gave me a problem.

Probably. But like vmod said, read the specs on the card before you go buying anything.

From comaprsions of my system and a few other people I know, it is my opinion that an AMD is probably a better choice as well. I think that the video architecture is cleaner than a Intel hence less CPU usage.

Please don't think I am trying to get into a pissing contest, just stating what I have seen. Just for the record, I have my setup on P4 2.0 celery 1GB DDR and 4x AGP (8X card on 4X mobo) and just used it because I wanted to upgrade my main box. If I were to go out and purchase a system for DVB, I would probably buy AMD. Just my opinion take it for what it's worth!

Is There A Way To Add This Dvb To A Ten Ft C-ku Setup

About Pc and Sat DVB card.
Tested 100% by me.

Soft - win Xp SP1a
Compaq p3 (733Mhz) ,512mb ram, ATI9550 video,20G HDD
And
SkyStar 2 (PCI )

It work.- I used a 6-7 month this combination in Europe.

BUT -
1 -it eat all MPU recourses
2 –If channel stream is more that 4Mb –no chance –it coming problems –MPU is too weak
So my recommendation – Celeron (P4) or P4 and up.

Thanks in advance! If your 1.8 Ghz was in your regular computer you would be in business. You get what you pay for. 800mhz is just like driving a 4 cylinder car. I have the AMD 1700 with windows XP . And you will need win xp especially if your going to use My Theatre. I consider my unit to be a 6 cylinder if we were to go by automobiles. If I was going to get a new computer the processer would be a AMD with at least 3.0 Ghz , now that would be a 8 cylinder ride LOL

Im running Twinhan 1020 on a Celeron 1.7 ghz 512 meg ram and ATI Radeon 9000 video card with 128 meg ram. It works well but occasionally drops a frame. The task manager meter shows its maxed out at 100% CPU usage and no other application will run, even the EPG unless I shut down the video to ease the load. Just another data point.

Running twinhan 102g on a dell P3 1 gig with 256 meg ram 64 meg video card with composite and svideo out. OS is the biggest problem that comes into play with a slower puter. I am running win2k pro and never drop a frame. Ritz has a graph editor that allows you to make custom settings for your hardware. Just install a good codec pack containing Power dvd and intervideo, if you have a copy of nero it would be good for a slower system. I installed ac3 codec and it gives me great 5.1 out for my surround sound theatre system. Ritz will also allow you to edit the codecs with a right click of the mouse on the playback screen and go thru each ones delay and synching. The Ritz upgrade has full support for twinhan remote.

Will not matter if it is a laptop or not, the only problem I can see is the graphics processor built into it. Some of the newer mobile graphics processors are better than many of the graphics cards I have seen people using for this. As long as you have it plugged in it should be ok, assuming you have a decent mobile graphics processor. Here is what i would reccomend for a HTPC:

Athlon 64 300+ (socket 939)
DFI Lanparty UT Ultra-D motherboard
ATI Radeon X800XL
1GB (2x512MB) PC 3200 DDR; make sure it is a decent brand (Corsair, Kingston, PQi, Patriot to name a few)
You can get a sound card, but the motherboards built in sound is pretty decent.
Lite-ON DVD Burner
300 Gig hard drive (serial ATA II)
A decent power supply(350 watt minimum I prefer OCZ brand) with 24 pin motherboard connector.
Whatever case you feel like getting, just make sure it is an ATX.
WindowsXP Media Center Edition

That system would be great for playing games or watching TV. Cost right around 1k for all the parts if ordered from newegg. If you dont plan on playing any games on it you could get away for about 800.

I am running a Nexus S card and using ProgDVB on a 633 Mhz PIII with 256 Mb of Ram and windows 2000 for a OS. I also have a DVD burner installed. They only limitation I have encountered is I can not burn a DVD and watch sat at the same time.

I have a lap top with similar specs (AMD K6) using xp. Anybody tried to set up a laptop? Wondering what equipment is required? I have a PIII 600 at work which I could bring home but i would rather use the lap top if pos.

An AMD with a 3.0GHz processor? That would be nice! :D I think he meant a 3000+, which is a 2.2Ghz processor.

It is actually a 1.8 Ghz processor. :) That is exactly what I am running in my computer right now. I think the highest speed AMD does is 2.6Ghz, but that processor is expensive. I could be wrong on that, though. Don't expect to see them running any faster than this any time soon either, both AMD and Intel are moving away from speed increase and moving towards Multi-core processors.

It all really depends. My 2.0 is showing 2900+ while tigerdirect shows some CPUs as high as 2.16 and as low as 1.8 being a 3000+.

Actually the computer I was looking at is a barebone for under $200.00 I was going to strip my present one and put it in this one. the only difference is it is not an AMD which I thought this Celeron was it's an Intel . System Overview listed below
CELERON D 350 3.2 GHZ 500W BAREBONES COMPUTER SYSTEM

SYSTEM OVERVIEW
Motherboard: ECS PM-800-M2
Processor: Intel Celeron D 350 3.2 CPU w/ Fan
Case: Black/Silver Ogre Chrome 500w Mid-tower case
Hard Drive Optional
Memory Optional
Optical Drive(s) Optional
Video Onbard 64MB Video
Audio Integrated Digital Audio
Network 10/100/1000 LAN

With the above I would be cruising LOL And Have A Great Day!!

Ahhh, thats the older newcastle or clawhammer core. The newer cores, such as Winchester or Venice run at a lower clock speed but offer similar performance as the older cores due to other optimizations in the core. Haha. Anyways, this isn't a computer forum, just thought I would shed a little light on the processor speed.

On another note, looks like AMD WILL be releasing a 3Ghz processor at the end of this year, although it will cost over 1k, it will be released, LOL. Anyways, a 1.8Ghz A64 is more than enough for DVB, 3Ghz is total overkill.

AMD 3000 + G force 6600 = np :)
