I'm trying to figure out which receiver is preferred and am not sure. I have heard that Pansats overheat and have read seveal post on "my Fortec Ultra is dead".
If you could start over, what receiver would you pick?

Many Coolsat 4000 Pro owners are happy with their FTA unit. It's a good unit with support.

The best and most advanced is dreambox, but they are not a newbee type of machine.

I got a Coolsat on the way but I would also say the Dreambox. I checked out the specs for it man that stb is on steroids compare to the others but highly priced.

Digiwave 7000 for me. The DG isn't really one of the hot topics in these forums but i think its a great receiver. It does the trick. would be nice of the epg worked but oh well i can live without it.

Pretty happy with my viewsat. New player on block, so not as much info available, but I am hopeing that with it's fast processor it will be able to handle the full N2 stream if it is ever implimented. Oh..the EPG ( electric program guide) is one of it's best features.

And if it only works for a few weeks... oh well, not the first time I've wasted more money trying to test than it would cost for a higher level sub.

Pansat tsops get VERY hot with nagra2 software, probably because of overclocking. I've installed heatsink/fan combos for Pentium I computers, and the cool the tsop at least 50%. Easy, safe mod.

The only Pansats I've heard overheating were the old Pansat 2500's. I have not heard that the 2700a and 3500s had any problems overheating at all.

Go Viewsat or Dreambox. Both have faster processors then the rest.
