I tried it on a RCA 430 that I had been running as a dishnet 301.13 for about a year. Since I get only 5 or so channels right now, I figured why not.
I used a fortec bin that is 1 meg in size. Copied it over itself using copy /b until I got it to 4 meg.
Loaded it up with jkeys and damn if I wasnt surprised that it booted up as a Fortec :D
I of course needed to use a fortec remote, and everything seemed to work pretty well.
Two major problems though:
You couldnt save any changes, for example, changing which satellites you are connected to asked to save, when I saved, it would go into some sort of power off state which was only recoverable by unplugging the ird. Do fta's save to eeprom or to the flash memory, because there was already a channel list loaded with some settings like which satellites were connected had selections already...I did blank my eeprom...
And even worse it doesnt see that there is a satellite connected to it, the (forgive my memory) "Quality" meter stayed at 0 no matter what I did. Well, I'm no electronics engineer, just a hacker, and I couldnt get past this.
Point is, it most certainly will run a fortec bin, albeit in a limited manner without further hacking on the ird.
If anyone has any ideas, please share.

I imagine with a little bit of hardware hacking this should be possible...it would be worthwhile to check out since it clearly runs the fortec software pretty well considering I didnt modify the software whatsoever.

If you could figure out the code, esp where its got a HUGE 4Meg tsop, you could make a lot of adjustments to it and have quite a setup. Problem is figuring it out and how to make it work, and what codes are specific for your receiver. Good information though, if it works someone should be able to figure stuff out for other receivers.. Might need to swap some components or make an addon board for them though so they have native controls (work with receivers remote and so forth) Be great if someone could figure this out with a PVR addon. :)
