Everybody is talking about unwinking.
I need to know if unwinking make the receiver more stable and the files last longer?
Some dealers claim that if they do the procedure the files will last a lot longer.
Thanks

Wink is a feature of the DTV service. It makes the IRD interactive on the fly, so to speak. You could respond to onscreen offers and the like with the remote control. This feature is like wool socks. If you like 'em, wear 'em. If not, don't. Will unwinking an IRD make it more stable or resistant to ECM's. Nope. Will it make script's, bins or Act's last longer? Nope. If someone is telling you that to sell you an unwinked IRD, then they are doing you a disservice. The original reason to unwink an IRD was to keep the old P2 H card compatible with the 5th Generation RCA IRD's as I recall. The Plakner mod was done right after to keep the flash from being overwritten again by Dave.

Perhaps what they are describing is the NoZKT mod instead. That is a whole 'nuther subject and there are tutorials here that are super easy to follow.

I hope this helps.

We were able to put Hu info, cam and zkt info, on a H card before the unwink was available. The purpose of unwinking was only to get rid of that wink update and prevent others that might come along.
