I know it may be a bit redundant to ask this question, i'm sure it's come up many times. I did a little search in the forums. came up with alot of threads but nothing conclusive..
Can someone explain to be the best possbile FT receiver that one can use for dish. :)
Best receiver with EPG capabilities.
Best bang for buck..
Also i'd just like to know the FTA files are they specific to each fta and model.. or does 1 file work for all fta's
Thanks guys

Consider what J5063 said, but otherwise consider Viewsat and Dreambox as they have faster processors then the rest.

The Dreambox is the top of the line FTA receiver, there is a 7000, 7020, and there is a new I think 7025 version to be released with a 8000 on the drawing board
with no release date. I have seen the 7000 and 7020 run for around 549.00.
The 7020 is the best at this time due to some voltage problems they had with the
7000. I think the new 7025 is a dual tuner. I know one of the new boxes has
a plug and play tuner and capable up to a 300 meg HD.
There is also another new receiver called Triple Dragon,it is also a linux box
with faster processor than Dreambox and more memory. The problem with
this is if it catches on and there is support for this receiver. The Dreambox has
been around for years, and there are many forums you can go to for help.
Triple Dragon around 450.00. I do not have one I have just been checking
around for prices and features.

and what exactly happens on October 1st? I;ve been so out of it since the MC died.. now that hockeys comming back i need to find a way to get my tv back lol
The boxes you guys have talked about seem pretty slick, just chked them out on ebay and a few sites. But i guess my question is, is there anything cheaper?
Just for personal knowledge, how are FTA's still able to decode the N2 stream? can anyone give me sort of a technical explaination, or point me to the right thread..
thanks
