I went through a broker in Canada. I'm using a R10 TiVo. It's been working for a couple of weeks, although it hasn't called out in 170 days.
I'm wondering what happens when Dave goes mpeg4. Will it still work? What happens to subs in the U.S.? Will everyone need a new ird? Is there a time-frame for this?

Your R10 does not support MPEG4. And I think I remember DAVE saying something like they would eventually convert all HD channels to MPEG-4, but SD will stay on MPEG-2.

If the whole stream goes mpeg4,Dave will have to send new ird's to everyone. Old receivers won't decode mpeg4 format.

Some friends & I were thinking of getting HD Tivos, so I guess it would be a good idea to wait & see what happens? Was there any indication of when this would happen?

I would say it's a couple of years up the pipe...very little talk of it yet.
