I hooked up the satellite exactly how the manual said then I proceeded to trying to get a signal and got nothing. I'm pointing in the south direction and the elavation and titl are right on the money. What could be the problem. Will the reciever get a signal if you haven't contacted DTV yet or does not matter?

You should be able to get signal before activation. Did you run the cable from the dish to your receiver yourself? What receiver is it?Triple check your connections, and if the sat cable doesn't go directly from the dish to the receiver, make sure there are no cable splitters in the signal path.
You might want to also make sure you have the exact headings for your dish/area.

Yes the cable does go directly from the satellite to the reciever. The reciever model is D10. I got the tilt and elevation from the setup screen using my zip code. What is the azimuth and maybe I need to mess with that a little more? South is the correct direction right. Thanks
what kind of dish, multi or single. r u using rg 6 cable? not fam with d10 receiver, what brand? but some sony rec will not have any sig strength when hooked to multisat. also check your ends on your cables. make sure pole ( or mount) is level

The dish is a 3 LBN. I think I'm using RG6 cable. Thats the regular cable TV type wire right? I'm not sure what the brand of the reciever is.

If your using cable tv wire, thats your problem. You have to use sat cable.Helps if you have buddy with a cell phone on the roof making slight corrections until you hone it to strongest signal.
rg6 is a must, i use a samsung, works great. none of my sonys work with multi. they wont show any signal strength

not true, at my moms they had cheap ass antenna type cable ran to every room and we just hooked it right up. Remember this shit is man made, could just be a bad LNB. Tell them to get you a new dish.

Just pointing to the given coordinates is not accurate enough. That just gives you a starting point.
Do you not have a signal meter? If not, you need to use the signal meter built in to your receiver. You must have a way to hear the signal as you manipulate the dish... it's the only way to aim your dish correctly.
You are NOT hitting the bird.
Try to find the 101 bird (it's the loudest) with the lnb on the far right, and go from there.
Is it the ParaTodos/HD style triple LNB with the built in multiswitch, or do you have three seperate LNB's?

1. Check to make sure your cable is not shorted by the connector. Disconnect the cable from both ends, use an ohmmeter to make sure you have no continuity between the center conductor and outer connector.
2. Use a compass to roughly align your dish to the correct azimuth. Make sure you have no obstructions between your dish and the southern sky at this azmuith and elevation. If you do then your dish will need to be moved to another unobstructed location. Set the elevation and tilt to correct setting. (I'm sure you have done this already). If you have a sat finder (about $10 on eBay) this will help locate the sat.
3. Fine tune your settings. Either use the sat finder mentioned above or have someone inside to watch the screen for signal level on 101 sat. If you have a triple lnb its useful to cover the center and right lnb's (looking from the dish out), with tin foil, this will cover the 110 and 119. Adjust dish azmuith and elevation for best signal on the 101 sat.
Remove the tin foil and cover the left and center lnb's and tune your receiver to watch the signal level for the 119 sat. Adjust (slightly) the tilt for best 119 signal level. Go back and check the 101 levels, if needed repeat the process for 101 and 119 again.
4. All 3 sat signal levels should now be peaked out. I have all 3 sats at 95+ signal level, on all D*V transponders.
Hope this helps. Be sure to make small adjustments when fine tuning dish. I just move the dish with my finger and check if signal level increases or decreases before I loosen the dish to make any adjustments. This way I know what direction and how much adjustment I need before picking up a wrench.
A triple lnb setup is tricky, you can be getting a signal on one or two sats but not the third, in this case you are tuning to the wrong sat, this is where the tin foil comes in handy, this makes sure the 101 lnb is looking at the 101 sat and you are not getting signals from one of the other lnbs.
Just take your time and you should have all 3 sats aligned to peak levels.
