Can anyone give me an answer to this? A buddy and I are sharing a paid sub in NJ. Due to an NHL Center Ice sports blackout we were thinking of calling DTV and telling them we moved to Texas. I have an address there that I can use. This in theory should free us from the blackout.
A so called "expert" in the neiborhood told me this wouldn't work because DTV knows which state the recevier is in by the signal it sends down. My instinct was that he was full of sh!t because the only area specific signals are spot beams and they cross state(and country) boundaries.
But it got me thinking...... Can/Would DTV shut down the card because it wasn't in the spot beam it's supposed to be in? It would seem DTV's capable of doing this. For instance, DTV sends a signal down with the NJ spot beam that shuts off all cards not subbed in that spot beam? Logically it would make sense for them to do this since a TX sub should NOT receive any part of the NJ spot beam.
I realize I'll probably be screwed on receiving any locals but I'm fine with that. I'll get them with a regular antenna.
Thanks ahead of time for any input. I really appreciate it.
