I used to have fun with Direct in the good ole days of a couple of years ago but now I am testing nothing. I tried the Dish testing but it became too complicated for me to screw with. I have decided to bite the bullet and subscribe and have been going back and forth between Dish or Direct packages. I believe I am now gonna go with Direct as of this writing. My question is this- Can the new cards be cloned to a couple of friends to defray costs? What is "subbing"? If it is possible, what is the hardware and software needed? Is the process it any more complicated than testing Direct a couple of years back? Thanks.

You can't clone cards for DTV. You realy can't do much of anything. Your best bet is to do some account sharing. Sub a few extra receivers for $5 extra month. Then give them to your buddies and split the bill. Simple as that. Subbing more than 5 receiver I would say is getting a bit risky .

It not risky at all, I got mine and 3 at my parents house over 100miles away, with 2 tivo's plugged in the phone line. You have to activate card with recievers from the same phone number, to get the 5.00 per box rate, then you can take them where ever you want and screw in the cable and plug them in and turn on the TV. The only way you can get screwed is if you get the bill and everyone has ordered PPV, Porno, etc. X-spensive! I been running this way for almost 3 years.
