Videotron to seek $374.2 million in lawsuit filed against Bell ExpressVu
MONTREAL (CP) - Videotron has upped the sum it's seeking in a lawsuit filed against Bell ExpressVu, Bell Canada's satellite TV operator said Monday.
In a news release, Bell Canada said Videotron, a subsidiary of Quebecor Media Inc., had amended their statement of claim in a lawsuit filed in late August and is now seeking $374.2 million in damages.
The lawsuit stems from allegations that ExpressVu has not done enough to protect its signal from piracy.
According to Bell Canada, Videotron was originally seeking $1 million in damages. The company is now asking for $49.5 million in lost profits over the past three years, $314.7 million for future loses and $10 million in punitive damages.
In a statement, Bell Canada said it "intends to take all appropriate actions to vigorously defend its position."
