View Full Version : Got a call today from Charlie...

Wants to verify all 3 of my receivers. Card #'s, and receivers #'s plus, some info off of the screens. Told me to have all 3 tv's on and ready for when I call them back within 72 hours or they cut em' off. My brother has 1 receiver at his house.
None of them have the phone lines plugged in. I assume that is the reason they want to verify the info. Due to not calling in.
Just wanted to see if anyone else has had a call.
Later.

I have heard about it. I believe that there is even a program to tell you what the numbers should be.
If JT looks at this, he should be able to tell you more about it.

72 hours is plenty of time to get your brother's reciever to your house (providing he doesn't live far away?)
make the call, confirm charlie's B.S. and continue to watch tv on a shared sub!
be sure to give them a hard time when you call. EX: "i pay my bill in full, why would you suggest even cutting off my account?" then threaten to drop dish and go to dave. i betcha they sing a different tune!
sounds like he's just doing his random "i don't believe all the recievers are in your house" check.

The program is called lidcalc # 4 in the public files / echostar files
http://www.dssftp.com/filedownload/generate_php/echostar__files.php
If calculates the numbers charlie wants for your off premise IRD's.
I don't know if it has been tested with N2 yet so try it first.
An alternative is to use a cell phone with your friend and a land line with charlie to get instant numbers, just say you have to run up satirs to get the numbers

Maybe it would be good to get your brothers receiver back for now and when they call you back let on the receiver is set up out in the motorhome but you have brought it in the house so you can comply with there wishes. This way the next time they call , and as I understand it ,there will be a next time, You can say the other unit is in the motor home and my father is in Florida right now. Just a thought.

U would have to bring it to your place, cuz the location number maybe different on the screen!

The "location number" has nothing to do with the "location" of the IRD
lidcalc, at one time anyway, worked for all models except the 301's. It doesn't work for any model anymore I don't think. I messed with it a bunch a couple months back and couldn't get it to work for any model. The only way to do it now that I know of is to set up some sort of instant messenging web and have your buddy/relative instant message you the location ID as or immediately before you report the info to Charlie. The location ID changes every 10 minutes, so don't wait too long to report. Write down the IRD and CAM info that is associated with each person your sharing with so you'll be ready to go when you call them. Like sugar_ray said, if they give you too much grief and say their going to cut you off, remind them that you won't be paying the bill if your not getting service. Simple as that. There are some pretty suprising horror stories out there about dealing with these guys, so don't give them the satisfaction. If they make it too hard or are too offensive just make it clear that your done as a subscriber and it's their fault. Threatening to desub and not pay is about the only leverage you have. You might want to get the name of the offensive operator and then write a letter afterwords letting them know if you do in fact have a confrontation. This is an extrememly stupid tactic Charlie has adopted IMO. This tactic is easy to beat and it pisses off the legit subs.

Thanks for the info. I will try that. I was planning on getting my brothers receiver beforehand. But I won't let them push me around about it.
Thanks again for the positive input.
That is one way to get back a loaned ird..lol you know for friends and family that thinks you gave it to them..
I would not tell them shit. Tell them to send somebody out to check it cause you dont know what they are talking about. What button on what remote."I use a universal remote", I dont see that button"...Tell them "ok hold on let me go get other remote. THEN GO MAKE A SANDWICH.
Put the tv on a rap channel and cut up the volume and walk away..lol. :)
Where does it say in contract that you have to spend YOUR time coddling the D*sh operators?
EAsy for me to say cause I am not in your boat!!
I dont sub although I do think a min sub is ok to support those assholes I just dont at the moment.
I would hate for you to get canceled because of my advise but thats what I would do is screw with them

You should make this a comedy skit...Screw around with them as much as possible and make sure you record it so you can get a laugh.
I do it whenever I get a stupid phone call and I have the time to Mess with them. YOU WILL FEEL REWARDED  :p
Call from a corded phone this way you waste their time when you need to go from room to room.

Guys this would be a americas most funny videos stuff if you pull this of.
if it's a woman that calls I would put on an adult channel or put in a video with it but the rap video would be good.
Then make them wait as much as possible. For every receiver you have and I would just use the IM idea or if possible a video feed would be real time. Just get a $20 web cam and you are on the clear.
BTW I also have tried lidcalc and it did not work either.

what numbers is Charlie asking for -------- is it only loc-id ?
would you think that if the receivers are very close
to each other like couple miles loc-id would be the same?
Or is it something else he is asking for ?

I've verified that the lidcalc program works like a charm on the recievers at my house.I have a 3100 and a 6100 for Bev. I've also called two of my buddies and verified both of their 3100's also show the same Location ID as the program.
Just make sure you put all the correct receiver information in and it will even correct the last two digits for you as well.
Good Luck,

Has nothing to do with phyiscal location. One could be in BFE and the other in waterloo.
Location ID is just a name given to a calculation for Charlie to identify a legal sub or not.

Location ID is some kind of calculation made by the receiver and changes every hour on the hour so this program has emulated that calculation and uses the clock in the computer.
As stated before it has nothing to do with physical location of the receiver just some kind of calculation using IRD # and time.

I have no experence with chuck, however I have done this with dave for 4 years my platnium sube is spread out betwenn me and my parents and grandmother, none of the receivers are hooked to the phone line. I just told dave I only have cell phone no land lines. there is no way for dave to tell where the receivers are without the phone line the receiver has no way to say where it is. DO NOT GET PUSHED AROUND !! I just have a list of reciver # and card # at my house for whenever I have contact with him. don't sweat it tell him to suck your nuts and shut up!!

OK ---- so if it is only calculation of the receiver - it does not matter where the receiver is
you can just call your shearing body and ask him for the # ( unless you can't reach him )
and that is why you can use "lidcalc" to give charlie loc-id of other ird's ?
Is this correct ? --------- so does it mean that you have to use "lidcalc" while you on the phone with charlie ? hehehehehehehe this is nice game hehehehehe

Yes, correct on all issues. But try to keep the mouse clicks to a minimum just so the person on the phone doesn't hear them. LOL
Good Luck!

How about setting up a conference call with your brother first, then call into Charles. Just tell them you have someone on the other phone in the basement to save you running down stairs because you are in a wheelchair.
Lie, deny, and act suprised!

That's on BEV. It DOES NOT work for Charlie. Don't even try it for Charlie.

yeah, you could always set the phone down by the stairs, drop something heavy down it and make some screaming sounds and then yell help for 10 minutes from a distance, that oughta mess with their heads ;)

well it just happened to me. they shut off three of the 4 311s i had. i called them and they said that they could tell that the receivers were in different locations. ok they are in different locations and one is only on 119 and mine is on both 110 and 119 with sw21 and my other two are also under 119 and 110 but with sw64 switch. now could the setup give away the location.? none have phone line plugged in. NOW LIsten to this.. as punishment they said that i could never put those three receivers on an account. not my account or anyones account. only if a new account is opened! can you believe that bs. well i have 301-10 with atmega and viewsat working great now so screw them to hell. well i did pay up my account just in case i need to cozy up to them again.
