View Full Version : Are you dissapointed in the AVR-X?

First off, I just want to say this is my opinion and everyone is entitled to their own opinion. So please don't start flaming in this thread. I have been in the testing game a while and enjoy the hobby.
The AVR-X was one of the first of 2 new hardware testing devices put on the market for N2. Sure....I jumped on board and bought em. Why not? Finally got my 2 AVR-X's in the mail and wouldn't you know it Penga releases the ROM10 to Rom 102 hack 2 days later for plastic. Okay no problem. Even cooler. More options
My beef is that the AVR-X is not all cut out to what it should be and this is why:
1. Since I have had it up the last few days I keep getting "receiver not authorized" after a little bit of uptime. Maybe every other day or so. I have to reboot the ird and replug the ribbon cable and I get TV back every couple days. Why? No idea. Maybe because I have an OC lock installed but that shouldn't matter after the AVR-X gets the session keys. It doesn't write anything to TSOP. AND beleive me I got everything setup correctly with my hardware.
2. The developers of the damn board took forever to come out with programming to take care of the key rolls and keep saying we'll have it out in 24hrs. Ended up being more like 3 days. Why mislead?
3. I have a 301.010 and a 6000 still sitting here that was expected to be used with it. Oooookay...where are we with this AVR-X guys????? Future support....Ooookay. How we doing on this guys????
4. Why the hell can't we still program our own tiers yet on this thing? I STILL can't watch my locals or get full open PPV's!!!!!!!!!!!
5. For $150 bucks this device should be doing all it should be doing for testing.
I have Penga's fix working on plastic and CEMU right now....and ya know what?..... I am able to test it anyway I like. Including messing with my own tiers and locals. Best of all it's FREEWARE!!!!! Will it stay up?...no way. How long will it last?....Who knows. What is cool as shit is that Penga and a lot of us in this hobby are doing this for the fun of it and to educate each other. Not to profit on something that even isn't fully functional yet!!
Wake up AVR-X Developers!!!!! The testing game has begun for N2 and you guys are far from the pack in a product you have offerred. Freeware is already kicking your asses!
Give your customers what is deserved after paying for a product.
Peace!

Yep i just got mine today and I cant use it . I ordered it the frist day it went on sale when mili was told it had support for the 6000 then the next day they pull a bait and switch saying that it's not supported then they say it will be supported in 2 weeks and here it is almost 3 weeks and no support and judging by how long it took this guy to get the keychanging version 1 software out I don't think he 's gonna get this new software out till propably next year :( It wouldn't be so bad if thier were more support for it .
YES!
Because all the trouble I see everyone is having with them I wish I did not buy any of them yet.
All I can see right now is trouble ahead for this card.
I thought all the trouble I was going to have was the ribbon cable to deal with when I brought them at the time hanging out of the box.
Anyway I have two coming I hope they work later.
Maybe a fix will come soon! look like i have to deal with it now!

That's probably why Mili took so many preorders.
Once the true facts came out about the REAL capabilities of the AVR-X the orders would slow down.
After reading the SPIN about what the AVR-X would do, I jumped on the bandwagon too and ordered one.
It's been a real disappointment so far. I only hope things will get better.

that is why I chose to wait a month or so. I had suspected all along this was going to turn into a MC fiasco. It's about time I get something right!
you guys will realy be pissed once he sells them for 50-60 bucks like he did once the MC was not selling due to all the drama.
I also recal it took close to a year before MC software ever got the full functions promissed. Chapter two!

i agree avrx is getting to be a piece of crap...................

I will have to agree w/ the general consensus in this thread, and I haven't even got mine yet. It should be here today, and I have my fingers crossed that I have one of the 50% that actually are able to be programmed. Seems like 1/2 are getting 019 nag after programming. Oh yeah, and havn't heard anything from the promoters OR developers of this product once the truth came out from the true testers; the end users.
I really have no opinion because I ordered mine October 27 and have not got a thing. Received a receipt showing paid and that is it. Makes a guy wounder. ARMS

LMFAO....
You forget one more thing ...
and AVR-X users will be Fuk'ed royally and twice as hard as the Magic fiasco...with the exception that this time there will be NO ....KY lotion ..
I'm not very impressed with my programmer. It came with a faulty part on it. That happens sometimes though. I'd a been really upset if I couldn't have fixed it with a $1.59 part and a little 30ga. wire. The AVR-X itself seems to be a pretty good device to me. Mine works great. I think it's a little too early to start bashing the AVR-X. It does appear to be a magic product, and the software support thus far has been reminiscent of the past to be sure. Hopefully the software provider will kick it in the ass and realize how advantagous and financially benificial it is for him to provide the support ASAP. It's still pretty damn early to tell how well this product is going to perform at this point IMO. Hell, were only 10 days to two weeks into this adventure. If it works as good as the MC did for the first year before all the BS, we're all going to end up being pretty damn happy with the thing.

For the most part people like myself (free tv'er) don't buy these devices to have to play with it to fix faulty parts. free tv'ers simply want it to work.

If it's to early to be bashing it wouldn't it also be to early to phrase it?
From what I am reading I see more people reporting problems than I would expect if everyone involved is (and it would appear so) in a state of reminiscents. everyone should have learned somehing or are the real issues being railroaded.

I had a magic card long before the MC1/MC2 issues it worked fine out of the box. When I tried to get the new software as an original MC1 owner. I was told my software key was bad.
I want to believe things are going to be ok but I don't see anyone from dssftp offering to organize or spearhead a thread with problems and complaints. The flavor of the day seems to be the same as it was with magic. belittle people and try your best to make the issues seem trivial.
Please tell me you plan to organize the issues and do a better job of communicating them to the hardware/software vendor. and If he refuses to listen. letting us know this should be your first priority. I only have 30 days to return my card and clear the charge if it looks bad.

Interesting how my post got quickly put in this forum from the AVR-X forum. Sure it would have hurt sales for Mili but it's not about that.
Weeble - Your missing my point bro. You even state your a free tv'er. I'm not. You shouldn't even be posting in my post. Those with testing knowledge can only understand the points I addressed. It's not about money for me at all dood. I sent out my money order to another dealer on Oct. 13th even before Mili had his hands on these. It's about how the AVR-X should be working and it's NOT as it should be.
Geez - I have freinds that can write tier programs in a few days. AVR-X still sitting on their asses and can't write a simple program to flash tiers to a damn card!!! Come on! They shouldn't have released the thing for sale unless they were prepared and they are obviously not prepared. The 301 and 6000 IRD support is the other matter.
Pisses me off quite honestly. I am not even using the damn cards because I want my full open PPV's and locals.

lol... Good one, Weeble. But, remember, the first script was still a smash hit!! Could have been a little more user-friendly , but it worked ,and we can't complain because we aren't smart enough to write a script like this!! I guess he said, If it ain't broke then don't fix it!!! And, I guess we can afford to get burned because we still play and flame each other!!! "Flame On!!!" As quoted by Fantastic 4 member , Human Torch aka Johnny Storm!!!

Well. I guess we have a difference of opinion on what a free tv'er is. I think it's anyone who buys instead of building their own testing equipment.

My definition of a free tv'er is someone who just has no clue what's involved in testing and expects to watch free tv all the time because they happen to PAY for a script, fix, hardware item, whatever and rely on other peoples support without learning for themselves.
I myself build and purchase. Build more when I can. I avoid buying for a few reasons. Mainly for security and secondly for the exact scenario we are experiencing with the AVR-X.

This is no flame toward anyone @ all but why on earth would one jump the gun & buy a product wich came out with absolutely 0 support 0 software & have no clue what to do with it if/when it goes down...
I'm so glad I waited to see what all the hype was about...& am now watchin N2 on a R10 without spendin a dime..
That'll Learn Yah...

Here,Here
I'm just waiting on someone to reverse engineer the avr-x so I can build one.
WHO WILL BE THE FIRST?
Anybody with the avr-x willing to draw up a schematic with chip i.d.'s? I dont know if it's possible, but I would LOVE to try. Sorry Mili, but I would prefer to not part with my $$$ & have Mr. FBI guy knocking down my front door. LOL
Never bought a single device online, everything I ever used was hand made using schematics found on web site's.

If you think your repetitive negative posting on the product is anything other than ranting, your fooling yourself. Do you have an agenda pumpin? You've said your piece in every way possible now. I can't help but notice at least 3/4ths of everyone ranting up a storm about this product have registered on this site in the last 30 days and there's really only about 6 of you anyway, and about 3 of you don't even have an AVR-X yet to bitch about.

I would imagine that everyone of the 3/4 that have registered have done so seeking support after banner advertising has brought them here to first make a purchase. like me. I think we would have liked a better title than bitcher.
And you Feeble, are gone. You signed up this morning just so you could bitch. I just went through and made a list of those complaining about this device, their join date and a brief overview of thier complaint(s). It's always interesting to cross refrence this information and see that all the negative publicity is coming from just a few people.
