Are there any solutions today to test Sirius (U.S. version) in Canada ?? I'm not interested in getting a Sirius.ca sub. Can someone just go to the States and buy a radio and sign up..???I imagine you need a U.S. address ?? What splitting a sub ??

Why are you not interested in 'Sirius Lite' ?
The US version is 120 channels, the Canadian version is 100 channels (including french). The Canadian version is a stripped down release for only a few dollars more.
I have had it for about a year. I live near Toronto. Works well. Wants a view to the west.
Find a promo code with google and get LOTS of money of the purchase price.

Well, point in fact, I don't want "Sirius Lite"...I want the original...I'm not clear on how to go about geting the hardware (order off of eBay ??...quick trip to Radio Shack in Buffalo..??..:) and more importantly, I don't have a U.S. adress....how do I sign up...I'm being pretty naive about this, right ???...I'm such a noob...:(

I just bought a radio in canada called and gave a fake us address that was fine I am not getting the howard stern channels i called them and was told all canadain radios have a chip in them to prevent us from getting the stern channels. I was then told just to take the chip out and it will open all the channels. I am going to get a friend of mine to look at it and see if he can remove the chip

I too want to know what to do in order to get Sirius, its awsome, i listen to the charile sirius channels all the time....but now with Stern, its gonna rule!.
So, I guess the main unknown part is if the U.S and Canadian Sirius Satalite feeds are being 'spot beamed' to each country?, or is the US feed available in canada, but since our receivers are modified, we won't be able to get stern show along with some other channels?
I would like to start testing this, hence the reason why we need a seperate forum area for SIRIUS only.

Okay,
I'm a dual citizen (american/canadian) living in Canada right now.
I have Sirius (bought in Michigan last July), and activated using my Canadian Credit Card, using a U.S. Address I have handy (The UPS Store, formerly Mail Boxes ETC.). I could'nt wait for the damn regime...opps!, the government to make up its mind on satellite radio. And I wanted U.S. programming. Not Inuits teaching me how to make candle wax from seal blubber, or a 80 year old woman telling me how great basket weaving is!
I had no problems with acquiring my Sirius. I have U.S. Programming, including the upcoming Howard Stern channels. :)
From what I have read on various satellite radio forums, YOU SHOULD NOT BUY A CANADIAN SIRIUS RECEIVER RIGHT NOW!!!
Why? Because it has not yet been determined if there is a chip preventing U.S. programming from being received or if it's just how it is activated by Sirius. Until there is more evidence, you should buy your receiver from the U.S. if you want American programming i.e. Howard Stern.
How to do this?
1. Use EBay, Yahoo Auctions, Overstock.com, ibid.com, or use pricegrabber.com to get the best deals using their search engine.
2. Before activating your newly acquired receiver, contact your credit card provider, and tell them that you have a secondary address you want linked to it. This must be a real address! Your phone number and billing address stays the same, the shipping address gets an additional address. This will help in the credit card charge by Sirius to be accepted, rather than rejected by your C.C.
3. Activate your Sirius receiver by CALLING a live HUMAN BEING! Better than computers losing info or not getting the information right.
4. Enjoy the satellite beaming Howard into your car/home. :)
Hope this helps.
I enjoy mine. I've attached the photo of my Sirius Sportster Replay. Nice. It has a 44 minutes flash buffer. I can go back and listen to what I've heard.
Fluffy.
P.S. Yes the customer service reps can be outright idiots, sometimes lie, and can be ignorant, but if you have your info, and everything set up for the activation phone call, then all will go well. JUST DON'T SCREW IT UP BY SAYING SOMETHING CANADIAN!!! LIKE "How you doing ay?, I'm frying my Canadian, OPPS, my peameal bacon here...ay" :)

Hi Guys,
Glad to help.
I forgot one other thing. It has to do with reception. There is a lot of speculation as to reception of Sirius in Canada if you buy the U.S. version.
YES!!! Sirius broadcasts the signal way up north and south i.e. Mexico. This is to ensure American customers receive their radio programming on their vacations. I went up to Northern Quebec, Canada to visit family on my father's side, and I had full bars on my signal strength meter. I went through the mountainous side too.
Don't believe anyone who says otherwise.
Enjoy U.S. programming in Canada.

yeah it must have something to do with the Communist Radio and Television Commission (CRTC) .....if i wanted to be suppressed i'd live in Cuba...it's warmer.

Speaking of Sirius in Canada, it doesn't look like the Canadian package will contain Howard Stern's channels, #100 and #101. Can anyone confirm this?

You are correct cybercurves. In order to get Sirius in Canada, Sirius had to agree to the Canadian Radio & Television Commission's demand to block Howard Stern and to have a significant amount of Canadian Content. There were just a few complaints concerning Stern's coming to Canada, so with the usual heavy hand, the CRTC made the demand.
Sirius had no choice in order to get the license.
If you want to avoid censorship from Big Brother's attempt at George Orweil's "1984", I suggest getting the U.S. version. You get Howard Stern and avoid old ladies telling you how great it is to basket weave and Inuit's from the north explaining how to make candle wax from seal blubber.

I do understand that the only way Sirius (and XM) had to get licensed into Canada was they had to include a percentage of Canadian content. But I didn't know or read anywhere that the CRTC actually made a demand not to allow Stern's show into Canada. I think once this becomes well known amongst Canadians, espeically when Howard's show takes to the air on Jan 9th, there will be a ton of pissed off Canadians and we'll see this in the media. Another example of Canadians getting the short end of the stick with compliments of the CRTC.

CRTC= Communists Regulating Thought Control
Now as for Sirius in Canada I bought an American unit about a year ago in Canada at a truck stop, and they gave me an address for a truck stop in Montana as a billing address.I am sure they just throw it out thinking it was junk mail but I have had no downtime and the bill goes there.
I subbed online and I just love it with no reception loss even in northern Alberta...So if you want an American unit just go to a big truck dealer (Kenworth,Peterbuilt ect) they will have them forsale.

ok I line in toronto and i bought a canadian radio and used an american address i made up and got the american programming. but no howard stern channels all radios ship to canada have software on them to block out the stern chanels.
so i went to buffalo and bought a radio there called sirius and told them i had to buy a new radio becuse i broke my other one i gave them the sid number and then activated it and i now get the stern channels. i used a canadian visa when i hook it up made up a fake address in the usa gave them my real phone number and e-mail and they new i was in canada and said they did not care and that was that no need to set up a usa address with your credit card company just phone sirius and give them a fake address I can't wait untill monday jan 9 to hear howard from my home in toronto :)

Is Howard Stern on any of Charlie's SIRIUS channels? I did a quick run through the 6000's and didn't see it listed. Could it be on its way?

/-/ound...there is no talk radio at all on dishnet, it strictly just music.if dishnet was to have all sirius channels on the satellite then sirius wouldnt make any money on system for home or cars.everyone would just buy dishnetwork and listen throw there tv's.also if you do a google search on "howard stern on sirius canada "you will find that there is a petition to bring howard to canada.i dont know if i can get in trouble with doing this but what the hell its for all my fellow stern fans. www.petitiononline.com/sterncan/petition.html (http://www.petitiononline.com/sterncan/petition.html). help bring howard home to canada. thanks all for your support.:D

Good luck with the petition. I think it has as much chance as a snowball surviving a furnace. :)
The CRTC sees their Howard Stern decision as job security. Something which gives them a purpose. It's now all "anti-american" with the election coming January 23rd.
Eventually, they will see the light, but not soon. They'll reach a decision that's sensible a day before an asteroid hits earth. And they'll call that fast.

I may pop down to Ogdensburg, New York, and pick up a Sirius radio. I listened to Howard's first broadcast on Sirius, it was pretty funny. He says that David Lee Roth took over mornings at K-ROCK. Is he any good?

Let's wait & see what the CRTC has to say. Hopefully, with a new Harper/Conservative government, maybe the CRTC will be too afraid to give new Prime Minister Stephen Harper, a reason to have them disbanded.
Wouldn't that be a crying shame....the CRTC "Big Brother" employees would have to collect Unemployment Cheques. :)
