While trying to stay anonymous on the net is tough, covering your tracks on your PC is important too. You can use TweakUI for whatever flavor of Windows you use to help clear histories at boot up, but also try the following:
This has only been tested on WinXP Home.
----
Start Regedit
Navigate to the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Session Manager\Memory Management
In the right pane, locate ClearPageFileAtShutdown. Right-click the value and select modify. Change it's data value in the registry key from 0 (zero) to 1 (one).
If the ClearPageFileAtShutdown value doesn't exist, you can add it. Right-click the right side of your specified key and add it as a DWORD value. Then change the data value to 1.
You will need to restart the PC for the changes to take effect.
Note: System shutdown time may increase a bit.
Remember, twiddling in the registry can wreak havoc if you don't know what you are changing! So BACKUP the registry!
