View Full Version : 508 vid mod - 12v to wrong lead - is my unit dead?

Hey guys:

I implemented a vidmod on my 508. I've been playing alot with flashing lately, and every time I write the TSOP, I need to activate the vid mod.

After doing it for the 100th time, I got careless this last time and think I might have briefly shorted the 12V connection to node B (instead of A). Since then, it seems that I can't get the unit to power up with the green light.

After doing this, I did have some trouble reading the flash. But after playing with the unit for a while with wall and jkeys, I finally got the unit to jtag flash like normal. So Jtagging seems to work fine, but the unit just won't power up!

I tried flashing back to my original bin (which was known working before) and the unit still lies there dead, even though jkeys data looks good.

Has anyone made this mistake before? Is there any way I can fix the unit to recover.

Thanks in advance.

Putting 12v to where you did, prolly ruined it......seen it many times.
But maybe not........with a fresh flash write, the receiver may appear dead, slip a card in the slot powered up normally.....see if green light comes on.
Put a finger on the flash chips and the CPU, if either are real HOT, toast....

Even the 3 wire single cut vid mod can ruin one.....

thanks for response. With card in slot, still no life. I did feel the cpu and tsops, and they're not hot. But I don't think that proves anything.

I think it's dead.

It's too bad, because I was so close to getting it to work. I guess on the bright side of things, I can salvage the 120GB hard drive and use the remote as an extra for my other 508 :).

I'll have to spend another $100 to get another unit ... and try this all over again....
