Have you tried the 4000 BUBA posted in the public downloads area, Echostar Tsop Area?
I have mod'ed 4000 BUFA and it's working fine ....pm me your email if you need them.

If I recall correctly the 4000's are very sentisitive to ensure you match the build correctly. the modifed BUBA TSOP N2-images (U19+U26) should also work fine with BUCA builds, but NOT BUFA. I have NOT seen the modified N2 TSOP images for the BUFA boards in the 4000's....which is surprising since BUFA is the most commonly found 4000 on the market.
so what we need is an RSA patch for the locations where the keys are on the BUFA boards and put that patch in the Flashedit folder.
bottom line: BUBA and BUCA are interchangeable (althought you might have to also change the serial EEPROM if you want to use them interchangeably; otherwise if tiny seraial EEPROM is not adjusted they slow down (but not stop) the IRD when booting up. Unfortunatley the EEPROM is 8-pin SOIC and not as easy to work with.
that's why its best to get matching builds so you don't have to mess with serial EEPROM programming as well.
If you try to use BUBA orBUCA builds on a BUFA board, you probably will get ONLY a steady green light during startup and it appears frozen.
mis-match is occurring, it has nothing to do with the TSOPs (DIP versus surface mount fighting for control if the IRD)..I have seen this many times.
an RSA PATCH IS NEEDED FOR THE 4000'S WITH BUFA CONFIGURATION FOR THE FLASHEDIT 2.1BETA4 FOLDER.
that's the only way to do it.
steady green means mismatched builds.

How are you writing to the 4000 when it don't have a jtag port on it? cause i have a old 4000 and i would love to get working again as a 3 ird. i got my 3700 and my 301.10 working
thanks

It's a long way. You'll need to take the flash chip out and program it in a flash programmer (expensive). and for the eeprom you will have to take it out to and program in a eeprom programmer. Industrial programmer could do both. I played with a 4000 and 3000 a while back.
You make the RSA file for 3000/4000/5000...the same way as for other IRD's ...
That's how I mod'ed my 3000 / 4000....
