i am trying to program my atmega. it wont let me enter program mode. i am using the same cable that works fine for my jtag. just had to turn it around so i could plug the male end of the cable to the female port. would that be a different setting in the preference or is it still 0x138? using windows98se if that mades a difference.

If you saying you are connecting your atmega programmer up with a cable ....I think most people just plug it into there 25 pin port on the back of there pc.

Are you useing jumperless atmega...? you should not even bother with "A cable" to connect to your programmer ,actually It's just A "Card slot" the programmer is your pc I don't know why people keep reffering to this as a "programmer...?

well it says automatic jumper on the card. card slot or programer which ever it is. it will still not enter program mode. i need to use the cable because my case on my computer does not give me enough room to attach the card slot or what ever it is directly to back of the computer. any other suggestions. i tried Fbprg16 in the originaljuniorroba, port setting at 0x378. this is a new atmega that has never been programed before. a red card if that makes a difference.

I had same problem... but its working now... I switched to a gender changer instead of a direct connect cable... I think these cable they cross a wires so 2 computer can connect and transfer files. After I did that... it programed but stopped in the middle and wont let me go into program mode anymore. Than i went into the cmos and changed the port setting to EPP or EEP not the one with the C in it. And now it program every single time. hope this help.

When u reboot your computer... before anything shows up u got to keep hitting the DEL button... its different on some computer... on my laptop its F2. Oh a gender changer goes behine my laptop to change the connecter so my programer will fit.

i've tried epp1.7 and epp1.9 still nothing. i guess i will have to pick up one of those gender chargers and try that. no shopping here on sundays. i guess i can wait one more day for tv. i waited this long

hehe yeah.. i think it might be the long cable that is making the already low voltage even lower and the atmega is having a hard time getting enough power... look here

Get a gender changer, by turning the cable around you re not really connecting your "programmer" since most cables dont have all 25 cables attached.
You can also try taking the screws and the metal plate off the "programmer", that's probably what's preventing you from connecting directly to the computer.

well i finally figured it out. well not really i just posted my problem and waited till somebody told me what was wrong lmao! i was trying to turn my ext. cable around so i could program my atmega from the other port on my computer. not realizing the other port is a serial port not a parrellel port. once i got that straight. off to rat shack i go to get a gender changer. picked up my gender changer come back home to program. then fuck!! another problem. i picked up the wrong gender changer. i picked up female to female and i needed male to male. so again off to rat shack i go. of course they dont have any instock. so off to a local computer shop i go. no changer there but they have a male to male cable. i was a little unsure to get it cause i didn't want to loose any voltage through the cable while i tried and program it.but i said wtf anyways. so i get home hook up the cable and voila a min later my atmega is programmed. so i quick hook up my receiver which has been flash and ready to go for a week. BAM! tv.
thanks to everybody who suggested ideas i am glad i got tv back

no changer there but they have a male to male cable.
I Have no idea how you got that to work, you normally use a female to male for an atmega programmer

well my parrellel port is female and my atmega programer is female so i just used a cable that had a male on each end. i guess its the same as a gender changer just has 6ft of cable between the two ends. anyways i am just glad it works.
