Hey all. While looking for ROM 10's on Ebay. I came across some generic looking cards called "project cards" that are being touted as compatible with ROM 10's. Mostly in England. I am wondering if anyone here has used such cards. The reason I am asking is because they are as much as 50% cheaper than actual ROM 10's. Thanks for any help.

Not saying these things are bunk, but it sounds too good to be true. Without having one in hand I can't say either way for sure. Maybe someone else around here has messed with them. I'd be pretty leery of em'. Might want to buy just one and see what it is before making a bulk purchase.

Haven't heard of "rom10 compatibles" , but if you refering to mostly white
telewest rom 10's , they're perfectly fine.
Provided they're open at A16, just remember to write virgin A16 dishnet/bev image
before actually programming them for charlie/bev (rom102to10).
Hope this helps.

Same old scam most likely.. People always try to pass off blank cards like that as the real deal. They have never worked. I really doubt they will this time either. I'd stay away.

If those worked for this hobby, the providers would be all over the mfgr's.

On another note, there sure are a loy of atmegas on ebay right now.

They work perfectly, got mine today, did not clean them as people had problems with them locking up (when using one step clean in nagraedit) and then use mrom6 to reopen.

I just write a clean bin then apply rom 10 to 102 bin and it works. Planning on getting more at 59 bucks for two its better than the real rom 10 on fleabay which most of them bastards advertise as unlock and when you get it, its locked.

If not Ebay, then where did you get them?

I did get mine on ebay, check out seller Stehales , he does not have any listed now but i emailed him asking for more. He is in the uk. I now see a few canadians selling the same card. He list them as dishnet compatible but they are the same NTL cards that the canadians are selling.

The card advertise as rev16 but when i check in nagraedit, it says something weired like a82 and ad3 on another.

I read it and it read fine. I then just write the clean bin from penga and check atr again, this time it says rev16.

I then loaded moded bin and all went great. I then use the same procedure as my regular rom 10 to get back in. Remove password, send d2c file and write clean bin to card again, works like a charm.

Mrom6 is just freeware utility use to get back in cams, i did not even open it but i downloaded it just in case it was needed. You can find it over at rom10x in the public dish file section.

two cards with shipping from the uk was $59 bucks. Earlier before the hack was primetime he sold 10 for 65 and 70 bucks, two bad i only got two to test but now i know.

Thanks for the info.

Finally last question
where do you get a blank image of re16???
do you just read a blank rom10 that has been one step cleaned in nagra 4.1 and save the bin or is there some other type of file.
Thanks

Thanks for the info Matrix. I ordered a couple to try from ebay for $63. including shipping from UK. Still about half price of the dish rom10.

In the penga8b rom10 to rom102 file with lock is a bin called clean.bin, click reset atr in nagra so it sees your card then open bin and write to card, then apply your regular rom10 to 102 bin file. Just write the clean bin back to card to clean and don't use the clean function in nagraedit.

I SEE so you remove the lock then write the clean bin over the rom102emulation instead of one step clean?

you also need to send the d2c file to unlock after removing the lock then write the bin:D

I have used them in the past and i never had a problem, the cards cleaned perfectly. Infact i still have one here it says ntl: digital smart card on the face and on the back it says nagravision is a trademark of kudelski sa switzerland and the card is an ugly purple and green.

I personally never had a problem as i never attempted to, just heard from others and took precaution not to lock myself out, afterall, i only had two to test at the time.
