I have a Direct Tv Tivo. It is hooked up to a phone line and gets it updates through the phone. How do Dish PVR's get there current updates if someone installs an AVR-X Card? I am sure they do not hook up a phone line for fear of being caught.

They get updates through the stream, but it isn't anything like the Tivo units. Just don't plug in a phone line and you will be good to go.

DirecTivo doesn't get updates from phone, they are from the stream as well. Phone line is only for purchases. I did the fake-call mod to my tivo, and it hasn't been connected to phone for over 2 years....
