If You put a 40gb hard disk. The pvr will download a firmware for 501, if you use a 80gb hard disk the pvr will download a 508 firmware, if you use a 120hard drive the pvr will download a 510 firmare.
The above statement came from a doc file I downloaded somewhere. Anyone know if it's true? Is the firmware sent down the stream identical for all three models?
What is percieved to be the problem with the 510 IRD's and the AVRX? Is it the firmware or is it hardware? Why do 501's work? Some 508's work, some don't. Anyone have a clue?
Has anyone zero'ed a 120 gig HD, married it to a 501, erased sectors and let it update via the stream in order to try it with an AVRX?

maybe this helps a little

had two 508s one worked with a blue card back in the day has oddcircuits tsop lock installed ar105-c and i just put the avr-x card in and worked no problem

another 508 would not work said smart card is not supported, i checked the 7FFFFFAC sector and there it was D500 so i did the 12 volt vidmod put it on a switch and then i wrote 0000 in that secotor gues what still no go! put avr-x card in and not worling so i took a guess and said to myself, something else may be different in the tsop of the 508 that originally came with yellow card, so i looked at the build configs was off by one letter, so i copied the flash2 from the working 508 to the NOT working, i did change the boxkeys and ird number for the not working receiver, and loaded flash 2 only, guess what powered up and workig fine with avr-x. just an opbservation frm my ecperience but something else is different in the 510 and some 508 tsops for sure, not allowing the avr-x to work, what that is i dont know.

It's not the tsop........it's the location, and storage method, of some other vital info.......

the 508/510 will not work, at this time, with an AVR-X.........unless the 508/510 was once a 501 then upgraded to a 508/510, by the addition of a larger hard drive.....
