I am trying to find out how difficult the atmega is to program, compared to the AVRX or evan an MC or plastic? My experience in testing is limited to the MC, although I started to do plastic at the end of the N1 stream but never finished. I've done vid mods, installed digi locks etc..., so I'm thinking I could handle it but I'd like some opinions before I try. When I found out magician was behind the AVRX, I figured I'd try other testing means if possible.:(

Although the atmega is very easy to program I would not bother with it unless you already have one.
Just because the AVR-X has used some of the MC programing it is not automatically his, IMHO! Many peeps have used other (part of) programming to make their stuff work (although they have not given credit where it was due). Even Casper copied programming and claimed it was theirs!
Short term the atmega will due (I has a couple and did use them), but I think that they will not last long and the AVR-X is being supported now and will hold up better. I had five ROM10's and gave them to peeps who needed them also, but I stuck with the AVR-X and a 301.013 for myself as I think that it will last longer. I know that the atmega is a lot cheaper and that makes it attractive, but I doubt it can survive.
This is just my opinion, but the AVR-X is a good item by design and I feel it is the best long term solution of the four that are available.
It all depends on what you have. I like testing and have all of them to play with (including the Wonderbox), but what I use is the AVR-X on my own system.
If money is the object pm me for a ROM10! I have extra that are not "in service".

It's DEff (new gen) FTA, then Atmega, Then, Plastic, why did I leave out AVR-X & syndrome?...cause I've never done those. Lot's of folk's saying Fta will go down and not come back (But it has been up the longest) and is far and away easier, than "All the" above" If you can aford it ,and I actually like it better than the D/N by itself. (Does a lot more thing's)...and as far as "staying Power" I deff have the feeling when other platform's may go down in the future just as before I'll be watching tv while other's are "scrambling" (no pun intended) To do so...All the best, good luck >0f course this is just MH0........

I have FTA, Dishnet with AVR-X and Atmega.
programming the FTA is simple same with AVR-X.
AVR-X requires soldering but it is very simple to do. PM me if you want to know the easiest way without using the copper desoldering thread or solder sucking tool.
I used Atmega on N1. It was very simple to program as well but Charlie always found a way to mix things up.
I haven't had a chance to set up Atmega for N2 because I haven't gone looking for the instructions on "how to" yet. (I would appreciate it if someone could PM me or post the site where to find this).
Again, not knowing what is involved to program Atmega on N2, I don't think it matters what you choose. They are all very simple to program, once you become familiar with the software.
I have also heard that the Atmega is now ready for BEV. Very cool. Looks like I am going to install my 5th dish on the roof.

Everything is easy after one learn's it. We all are just applying script's (not writing code) I just posted some simple thing's to look for and or avoid when learning the atmega rite now. I wish I could get "B*V but it's below my horizon here in so.Cal. B*V was out first on FTA this speaks "VOLUMES".IMHO...All the best...!

i've only used the atmega since it first came out a few years ago ( on bev 2700, and 3100 ) . now i'm using it really for the first time seriously with dish .
i've always found it fairly easy to use and program .
i just have to say this about it , look at the lifespan of the atmega , and how many so called " miracle cards " that have come and gone . even when everyone thought the atmega was doa when n2 came along , guess who everyone is starting to turn too again . THE humble atmega 128 ........
picking one up , even if you had to pay 50.00 , would be well worth it . you'll something new , you'll get some " free " tv from it , and maybe we'll all get lucky and the atmega will still be in use 5 years from too .
