Two Indicted; Charged With Stealing Satellite TV Signals

Two men from Middle Tennessee have been indicted by the federal government for satellite piracy. They are accused of making devices that are used to steal satellite television signals.

They are accused of modifying cards that fit into satellite TV receivers. The cards decrypt a satellite signal let customers view DirecTV channels without paying the required subscription.

Donald Nance the second and Brian Clements are named in the indictment. They're accused of selling the modified cards for $250 to $300.

Direct TV and other companies come up with new technology to try and prevent piracy, but it only works for so long.

“Almost as soon as they get it out the criminals equally as smart, probably equally as ingenious, think of a way to over come it and that starts the spiral of trying to one up each other and it looks like on this one we caught the bad guys in about the third generation of that technology cat and mouse game,” said U.S. attorney Jim Vines.

Nance and Clements are also accused of selling more sophisticated devices that allow people to duplicate illegal satellite decrypting cards. That equipment can be sold for $250,000.

Did you really think that DTV wasn't hacked... it's been cracked for ages, but good luck getting it from anyone unless you 'in the know'. The legal aspects of releasing it are what has prevented it from happening.

Although the news release can be interpreted in different ways, I'd say this is the final disposition of a case involving the HU card, not the P4/P5/whatever.

If these two dudes were selling hacked (and not just illegally subbed) P4 cards in the US for 250-300 bucks - true hacks that really worked - someone would have run their mouth about it and it would be all over the net by now.

This is not a new case. Goes back almost 4 years, and is based on the HU cards. Looks like maybe a deal with the DEVIL that fell through.

made the news this morning here in tn, it happened in nashville.........man so close and no one ever heard of them, but they say they busted them with over 1 mil in inventory...........what a shame.........

Guess I'll put my head on the chopping block. Went to work today and was talking with a buddy of mine who said that he was talking to his son yesterday and he is now watching DTV. As far as he knows the card is wide open which he is going to find out for sure tonight, said he would give him a call. It would be nice if his son wasn't a 24 hour drive away, would be easy to confirm. Said his son paid 200 bucks to have it done. Now don't bother jumping all over me cause I really don't care, just reporting what I know and don't know. If I hear anything tonight I'll let you know, if not it'll be tomorrow. Kinda makes you wonder though where bev and dish have taken such a big hit. Sure would be alot easier on them if someone where to leak some info on DTV. More than likely an activation but he didn't seem to think so, anyway we'll see.

Everyone, you have all been waiting and chatering about a hack for 3 yrs. havn't seen any hard evidence yet. You mean to tell me nobody has the balls to release this thing. There isn't nearly as much money in it as you would think. Who in there right mind is going to take credit for it? If i told you there was a hack would you believe me too? Think about it people!
