JTAG Question

Folks, it's been a long, long time since I JTAGed a Dish IRD and the only one I have is an old, non-buffered one: Will it work or do I really ned to upgarde?

What do the newer ones do differently?

I have no problem with getting a new one, but why throw away money when I may not have too?

some people live and die by the buffered. others say they never had any problems using a simple one.
I have had better results using buffered and always got good erases and not having to erase 3 times..
your gonna get advise on both sides so it really is do you have the means to get a new one. no it will not be throwing away money and some real stuborn ird's you will need the buffered to get it to work.

Hey man, try using the one you have first. If it doesn't work, consider picking up the buffered jtag from Mili's store. It's a pretty decent jtag and will work with all jtagable IRD's. Personally, I would recomend you go with a nice buffered jtag anyway, but no reason to buy anything if you can get the job done with what you already have.

Better hustle over to the store and pack my bag with one in case it becomes an issue I'll be prepared.

It was just that I never used one and wanted to know what I was gettin into (the good Boy Scout that I am)!

I've never had a problem with my simple jtag. And really, is pressing the erase buttom 3 times that big a deal? nah Why spend money if ya don't need to.
