coolsat 4000 help plz

I am new to FTA rec.'s and all and I just bought this coolsat 4000 today.. When I was at the place the guy showed me the rec as working and had it hooked up..

brought it back and set it up.. getting 94% signal on the 119 sat. not too sure on exact settings but basically my problem is im getting a "Scramble Channel" mssg on every channel.. ..also getting "No Audio/Video" messages on some channels.. I was reading about having the proper keys entered by pressing 8282.. I did and it was exactly as the sticky in this section said it should be.. matched up perfectly *since it did work early today when the guy showed me*

Can anyone tell me whats going on?

first did you get any hardware with your box, like a diseqc switch and a serial cable, if not you have got to have them..:rolleyes:

I have the serial cable yes.. but not the switch cause I only have one dish... I am assuming thats what the diseqc switch is for..

it does not matter how many dishes you have unless you are running a dish pro lnb you will have to run the diseqc switch , you will also have to match the downloaded guide with witchever lnb you have. hope that helps;)

you don' t need the switch if only using one dish.
what you need is the resent keys. or go to the public file download and get the new norw file for the coolsat 4000 and your good to go.

yup thats exactly what the guy told me.. why wouldnt he want me to buy one unless I didnt need it..?.. isn't that the #1 objective of sellers to sell you stuff? so I didnt buy it cause I figured if I really needed it he would have sold it to me..

Think I need a new Norw file?.. look above .. I wrote down the version I have.. I do know my keys work fine.. they are the ones posted in this section.. and if its a new Norw I need how come this guy had it working this morning.. possible for it to go down that fast or somthing?

i know this is all pretty confusing but if where you got it set it up on his dish and yours setup is not like his it will not work. youve got a lot of reading to do.

so I dont understand who to believe.. zhaky seems to agree..

..*addon*.. this isnt just some guy aswell.. he has atleast 100 customers so I assume he knows what hes doing.. 10 of which I saw there when I went..

I agree READ! I just got my 2 Coolsat 5000's today. LOL

5 min out of the box and dish is running wide open with my old sw21 switch and all. Didn't even have to climb the ladder in the Chinook!!

I,ll tell one thing you mite try, go to dish settings and delete all channels , then do a blind scan on 119 sat you mite pick up some channels that way.

on your dish settings check sat 119 settings and turn off switch and work with that screen till you get good signel and quality then save and exit.

are you sure your dish is pointed at the 119 satellite.The best way to check is to hook up a Dish Network receiver to the satellite dish and that will tell you.

yea im sure it is.. I mean why would the signal show 94% and quality 91% when 119 is selected?..

it has to be pointed there.. plus from what I read 119 is west and thats where my dish is pointed..

i dont have a DN rec anyways to check..

I believe you will get signal strength in green if you are on any of the Dish satellites.If you are on the wrong satellite you will get some channels.Post some of the channels names that you have to confirm.

ok dude. its the keys. You need the new file NORW_106 for coolsat (4000) or the NORW_106 for (coolsat 5000). You can find the file here or on other forums.
Once you have downloaded the file do the following.
Do a factory reset and delete all channels.
Upload the new file (NORW_106) to the recever (using serial cable and STB loader or coolsat loader)
Go to Installation -> Dishsettings and select the 119 and see signal strength.
If you can see the strength is over 65, you are ok.
Wait 5 minutes till the keys are automatically changed (no manual input required).
go to installation and do a blind scan selecting the satellite (119). If you have 2 dishes then you need a 'disec switch'. Once the scan is complete you should have the channels.

currently no channels work.. but heres the really weird thing.. I can listen to all the radio channels no problem.. and some channels that have descripted video.. I can hear the descriptive video... so I have come to the conclusion that it cant be the dish..

okay 106 seems to be working GREAT guy guys.. finally it works..

what happened is I downloaded the new firmware and a channel list a freind gave me.. then put it onto the box.. I opened it up and it didnt work..so I did a blind scan.. still nothing.. then did an auto scan.. and i left for 5 minutes... came back and everything was working...

only one problem I am not sure if I am getting everything.. I mean there is tons of channels but I cant seem to find PPV after scrolling through.. anyone have a good channel list I can use or somthing?.. I believe that it wasnt the auto scan that brought up the channels just that I needed to wait 20 minutes for them to unscramble or somthing...



*addon* I just discovered all the movie chans.. vu1-31.. is vu1 the PPV event channel? casue I saw wrestling on there.. also I cannot find any HBO's.. will getting a chan list fix this?

you are on Bell Express Vu. That is why you are not getting Hbo etc. You have satellite 91 (Nimic 1 & 3)

Thats why!.. but its on 119.. accept it says bev.. plz dont tell me my dish isnt pointed correctly.. is there moer then one 119?..

you are out 28 degrees in your Dish Pointing.Where I live(BC) there is also a 10 degree difference in the elevation setting between the 2 satellites.Your receiver can recognise a signal but not necessarily from the right satellite.If you have access to a Dish Network receiver it is much easier as it will tell you exactly which satellite it is receiving.

okay thanks.. so i gotta re point it?.. so there is no way to get the bev 119 and the dish 119 without 2 dishes correct?

is the selection of channels with the dish 119 better?.. meaning more/better channels

okay so 28 degrees off (left or right?) and elevation 10 degrees (up or down)



*EDIT* so when I start to move it and start to recieve a signal from the dish 119 will it appear in my settings as Dish 119 and not bev 119?

Andrew,
Its more of a personal thing in your decision between Bev and Dish. Bev 91 has a shitload more PPV than 119, however 119 has good variety channels like Discovery,etc... 110 has a ton of PPV and movies, however if your looking for something thats all around than perhaps BEV might be the best for you, find a firmware that supports BEV, (you might have it already on) and find a good channel list for BEV. Otherwise as we discussed last night, its you dish. hahaha. Now your old file is probably the reason the BEV channels were scrambled and BEV's radio might be unencrypted. Anywhooo, either find BEV channel list and program file, or just wipe your recievers channel list since it sounds screwed after all your scans and put the one I sent you.
So don't think you need to come anymore today lol.
By the way, I don't use FTA for BEV so I don't remember if theres any Auto-Roll files for BEV and coolsat? Perhaps someone would want to shed some light on that?

i agree READ, many good "how to" on many forums. if a hardhead like me can get them running anyone can. AND one of my dishes is an old dtv dish with dual lnb, it works fine.:cool:
