Hey guys, i've got my hands on a 6000 receiver from dish, trying to update it to latest firmware so i may use it on the AVR-X heres the problems though.
I go into jkeys flash programming and earased sector SA30 from flash one like everyone says, left it in the stream for the night and the software did not update..
i checked the sys info screen and it still said software version 784p even though i had cleared it via jkeys..
Whats up? did i do something wrong? could someone tell me the proper way of doing it?
If not does anyone have virgin unmodded tsop banks from the 6000 board model CNDD (printed on board, detected as CNDA in jkeys)
thanks

If you can get into System Info, then you haven't erased SA30.

Alrite something isnt clicking here.. i ran jkeys again.. went into flash programming and i earsed SA30 3 times on flash 1
disconnected the receiver.. hooked up my jtag again.. plugged it in and this is what i see on the screen ! (look at attached pic)
it seems like the memory just got corrupted or something..
now i cannot even get back into flash programming mode it gives me an error..
but everytime i connect the receiver to the jtag adn jkeys i can still click save mem and read out the contents
what have i done ?
I should also mention when i plug the receiver in now i get automatic power on and blue light is on (output in hd light)
Is there any way i might be able to use the dev panel in jkeys to uplaod my saved bin files?

wondering if i can use the dev panel to do the follwing
what if i went to the read/write area on the right side entered 7FC00000 as the starting point and 20000 as bytes, and then load up my back up bin file.. would that relaod the tsop ?
i'm desparate here.. tried looking around but havent found anything

What kind of Jtag do you have?

simple jtag.. bought off ebay a while back..
jtag works, i know this becaseu i was at first able to enter flash programming mode, and i am also able to read out of the memory..
the jtag also works on my 2800 receiver..

I was using a simple Jtag for everything as well until I ran into this same problem with my 6000. Made a buffered and fix all my problems.
I'd suggest that you get yourself a Buffered Jtag. There are some for FTA Jtags on ebay that will work with all receivers except for the 301.010. They have a 20 pin connector on the end of it. If you are using just a pin header install for the AVR-X, you will be fine. If you have the 14 pin blue header, then that Jtag won't work for you.

thanks i'll check that out.. but any clue why it worked the first time?
take a look at the image i attached.. under firmware it has 78 then some weird symbols.. ever seen that before?

Yeah. Just a problem with the communication between the IRD and PC.

thanks #40.. that gives me some assurance that i did not permanently kill my receiver :)
appreciate your help.. i'll go chk out a buff jtag and report back

Believe me, I was scared to hell too. The worst part was I decided to mess with a Brand New 6000 instead of an old used one. But the buffered Jtag and hooking it directly up to the PC, no extension, fix it all.

i had similar problems i grounded pad 1 to ground pad on the jtag using a toggle switch, suddenly no more errors in jkeys, did this on two 6000 receivers, wether it was that that worked or not i am not 100% sure but maybe something to try, i dont think it can hurt.

is this the kind of buffered jtag i should be looking at?
it says its a 20 pin buffered jtag..
I'm using the AVR-X with the 14 pin header install, if this jtag is 20 pin long, that means i would ahve to solder in more headers correct?

If you are using a 14 pin header, not the blue header like in Mili's How-To, then that Jtag will work.

oK.. I've ordered a buffered JTAG on wednesday night..
kept reading through forums and came across the BFL mod for the 6000 receiver..
I decided to try it.. and holly crap it worked... i now have full access to flash and eeprom programming.. I guess it wasnt my simple jtag it was a corrupted flash file..
Now my question is this.. i have the tsop backups.. but i do not have an eeprom backup..
How can i go about getting that? I'm confused as to which one i need to use. On the motherboard it says build CNDD where as JKEYS is reporting CNDA
which eeprom should i download? also to virginize the eeprom i just use flashedit correct? and do the crc check?
Would really appreciate the help.. thanks guys

jkeys always changes the last letter to A !! just find a build with the first 3 letters n your good to go. i just save the eeprom and use hex workshop to ff all but the first 24 bytes just remember that a byte is 2 numbers or letters

Mod Master, as long as you have both TSOP files, IRdr.exe or Flashedit will create a virgin eeprom for you.
Wannna_be wrote up a very good guide for jtagging a 6000. This should be a "must read" for folks not familiar with the 6000. It can be found at a different forum site.
