I started thinking tonight. Take cover. If you guys recall Nagra1 was not hacked until DTV decided they needed hacking. Charlie took it in stride, sued Dave for being naughty and all but otherwise they put their faith in N2. Now that N2 is hacked thanks to the FTA people in Asia Charlie is in a pickle. They can hope that their migration to the MPEG-4 transport system will ruin the day of the FTA crowd but that leaves ROM10X and AVR-X hacks still something they have to deal with. (Atmega, Syndrome and ROM10 to 102 kind of TSOP mod dependant and slow processor hacks won't stay long should Charlie move on them)
I am thinking what companies do when they are in shit and they see that their peers are doing OK? You think they will try emulating their fellow man and try to better themselves? Haha. You obviously have more faith in corporate America than I do. What companies that are down do is they pull their competition down just to even the field. Based upon past experience and my immense intellectual I am now predicting a P4 hack to be leaked, released in the near future courtesy of Echostar.
The risks:
1, You get caught you get sued (I am sure they learned from Dave's mistakes and will be careful)
The benefits:
1, Hackers will go after DTV with a vengance as Dave has NFL Sunday ticket and in my humble opinion a better channel lineup.
2, Less people will concentrate on developing DishNet hacks and selling them
3, DTV's profits will tumble as well as DishNet's
4, Many ex-hackers of Dave are just dying to get their hands on the Holy Grail of satellite hacking and a P4 hack will spread faster than a California wild fire.
So the first time since the HU swap I say we got a real chance of something surfacing. Beware of scammers though, they will be coming out of the woodwork.
