Got my 2nd 510 DFHD it was new with p84 did the correct 4 wire 2 cut trace vmod (thanks skinerd) saved streamed and runs great. My first 510 DFED followed a guide that was real bad but don`t think I damaged ird. Repaired trace cut did proper vmod topside jtag and I can get video sound but HD error. Tried 3 different bins ie. p84 Dfhd p80 DFJd, p80DFED. I quick zeroed and also full formated maxtor HD installed HD after vir. bins wrote but it won`t marry. After more reading went back and checked in flash edit bins are opening under moved boot strap and I`ve been manually moving to moved ird info. Is this right or am I missing a step. Could sure use any advice got lots of hrs. on this one. Thanks in advance

You have to write virgin eeprom also.
What ever file you use make sure you don't see all fffff's in the file when opened in the moved ird info. If it looks correct all you need is the virgin eeprom

Virgin eeprom is absolutely nescessary, I found out that the hard way......
Did 2 DFEA(D) PVRs and neither married, I used a FACTORY eeprom from a new P080 PVR, not virgin, switched to virgin......both married.

me too. As long as I've been testing the 510, I just recently figured out I need virgin eeprom.

Thanks for the excellent advice now know my bins open properly. The way I`ve been doing eprom is selecting eprom in flash edit and factory eep I saved for the file, hit advanced than save and copy as vir eprom. Hope I`ve been doing that right. Thanks

You have to open the flash in flashedit. Not the eeprom, I don't know how that works.
Once you edit your flash to what you need then you have to do the virgin eeprom script. This will create the virgin eeprom for you.

First off, I would recommend doing a full zero of the HD not the quick fill. Truthfully, I am not sure if it really matters, but when I had HD errors I resized and did a full zero fill. I know it takes hours, but I have read a number of people cleared up their hd problems by doing this. I then took the p080 fw, opened in flashedit and created a virgin eeprom. And yes, you should open the flash in flashedit under "moved IRD info". When I used jkeys, I found that my unit liked it if I erased in this order:
1. Erase flash 1 (U6) twice.
2. Erase flash 2 (U7) twice.
3. Program Flash 2 with p080
4. Program the eep with virgin
5. Restream
I dont know if others found this as well, but if I didnt follow this order, I wouldnt get a green light after plugging the unit back in, like U6 wouldnt take. After putting the unit back in the stream, if you dont get a HD error then it has married. No need to wait for a stream update if you already have the file, just reflash the tsop with the p304 and the unit should work fine.
I also found this on another site, I havent tried it myself because the above steps always work for me...
Try to reset the hard drive by pressing these buttons on the remote:
Menu > 6 > 3 > Info > Right arrow > Left arrow > Play > Play > Recall.
Don't wait too long between pushing the buttons.
Also, im not sure if you are trying to mod the receiver for the rom10, or rom101/102 cards, but that is a different ballgame altogether (as far as the p304 flash). I just spent 4 days getting my pvr510 up again with a rom101 - what a pain!
Hope this helps!

I use flashedit 2, not the beta editions to make a virgin eeprom.
A virgin eeprom is quite simple, it has the first 48 bytes of data, 0x0000 thru 0x0047,which includes the build config in the first 4 bytes. The rest of the eeprom file is FF.

Well I 1.(a) took vir. p80 in FE reset ird and BK info under moved ird. info ( b) Saved vir. eep and personal dump DFED (c) erased u6 2x- u7 2x wrote saved flash to u7 and vir. eep Now 2.(a) HD was out of ird. using maxtor 3. on floppy I tried to zero out. (b) on quick zero it said done immediatly so 3x I`ve done full zero takes all nite. (c) install HD hook up to stream get HD error 045 tried 304 and ird runs flawless on syn. but no HD 3. tried a p84 vir. also no luck.
This ird is driving me nuts any info "greatly" appreciated

Don't use the maxblast for zero's. Use powermax. Then do quick format or quick zero or low level format, I forget what it says. Powermax is also available through maxtor.
