Could anyone tell me where I am wrong?
I am using the CEMU from the downloads, the EMU is one I used before so it's not the problem.
When I run CEMU I get the three responses, about the bin, etc.
When I plug in the emu, (have it on a BS board I modded for this, going to install internal once working) the numbers start to roll and the box start aquiring, I notice there is a lot of Unknown Commands, both input and outout, for every 10 lines of normal output there will be one unknown command, is this normal?
Once it aquires sig fully I have the guide, and I can see all the programs as purchased. But the Previews are the only ones with vid and aud. But after a while, it always ends up giving me an error 19 card not inserted correctly, pretty odd since it goes thru the aquiring and all and nothing is moving the EMU. I may go ahead and hard wire it just to get rid of the possibility.
I think the lack of other channels may be related to the keys not being up to date, I have read different opinions on how to update the keys on CEMU, what's the deal on that?
Also what is the best ver of CEMU out there and are there IRD's that work better than others??
Thanks in advance,
Jimyt
First of all, have you modified your IRD's firmware? (RSA flash)
Next, depending on the design of your EMU board, you must have the correct hex file flashed for it to work properly. (One or two-chip max/mel, etc.)
Internal or external doesn't matter if it worked before.
Occasional unknown commands are normal.
Let us know what you're using, and we might be able to help out.

Well yes I updated the TSOP as per instuctions, and then opened it in flashedit and applied the rsa patch (this was all included in the CEMU.RAR and I followed the readme)
I erased the thing 3 times and then wrote the patch file to the IRD no errors.
The first time I loaded the atmel, I put the 2 chip and it wouldn't work, then it dawned on me I had a 1chip IRD, so I reflashed it and no errors there and then it seemed to start working somewhat. Only the black screen, I tried my 1 chip emu as well as the 3 chip emu I have been using, and both do the exact same thing. I have the guide, I have previews,, but nothing but black everywhere else
I thank you again for you help
Jimyt
Jimmy,
You're almost there, but there might be some confusion here......
The hex flash I'm speaking of goes on the atmel, not the TSOP.
It sounds as if your IRD is ready to go. ( Easy to check, if you have a ROM10-102 to try in it.)
Now, whether you have a 1 or 2-chip EMU board, it's very important to get the right file flashed on the atmel, because data is inverted on one. (not sure which is inverted, but they won't interchange)
The 3-chip interface should use the 2-chip flash okay, because it uses the maxim chip.
Let me know how it goes.

Thanks for all the tips.
Well I figured that out, only the 2 chip hex on the 2313 atmel worked on the 3 chip EMU and the 1 chip works on my one chip emu
I have some more info , I missed one same thing that has the IRD messed up,
When I opened the saved flash and changed the Boxkeys, and ID's to what the readme said, then it said to click the CRC *which was yellow* and make it green then apply the patch and do a save as,
Only thing was the CRC didn't turn green, I am pretty sure that is the cuprit.
Don't have plastic to try, but I am modding a loader tonight and we'll try that later on, I really prefer the EMU, I have tried plastic and EMU since Dave's F days and only the EMU give YEARS of good testing.
This one is a 3900, I was thinking of getting another good non-fixed 3900 that matches mine and try it all over.
Any other thoughts?
Thanks
Jimyt

From what little I know, the crc should turn green. Double check your box keys and ird #, you may have entered them wrong. The box keys are in sets of two with spaces in between. The IRD is a solid line. There are no o's in the any of the keys, they are zero's.

Thanks for trying to help, but all that is normal, and I have seen the CRC turn green before so I know that the yellow isn't correct, I am thinking perhaps the flash wasn't completely updated.
Is there any other ways to get the thing to take updates other than putting zeros on a card and letting it update that way?
Why do you want it to update?
You should already be using the latest TSOP version, and an update would overwrite your RSA mod to the flash.
Are you using the correct version of FE? (beta4) I think there are CRC problems with earlier releases.
Or, your easiest bet would be to download firmware for your model/build that's already modified.
Let us hear how it goes.

Have you verified that you have to current keys? That would produce a black screen...
also, what type of computer are u using? I was tryin to run on a P-90 laptop, and it would give me the scrolling numbers on the cemu screen, but no pic or audio...
switched to faster computer (P-266) and it worked fine..

It's up, all is fine after 1 week, bad connections on the EMU. Among other screwups

Here is what I finally ended up with, a small board makes a Max&Mel easy for about anyone

Excellent choice of product there Jimyt. If you got it from the original manufacturer you can't go wrong either.

Yep I got it from the guy who had em made, the pic doesn't do the size justice
Its about the same size square as a P4 processor, about 1" by 1.5" TINY
I put doubleside tape on the bottom of it and it sits on top of the card slot, nice short leads to the IRD connections, and only a 4 wire cable coming out the back of the IRD to a tiny desktop PC (P-II 266), no rf interferene, a real dreamboat. I don't know what I'll do with my ratsnest of wires I replaced, it works as good as this one, just 10 times larger and tons of jumpers... nasty....

Hey Jimyt
I've seen that max&mel kit before....pretty good pic...lol.
Yes, mc24's project was fun but after a dozen or so it became pretty damn tedious.
Sounds like the wire to I/O pin7 wasn't good? I try to use smaller wires [24 ga.] and pre-wire the emu before placing. Tinning the ends creates excellent connections. I also tin all the mobo connections and then just melt the two together:
[1] 5 tinned wires about 4" long to connections to +5, G, 7,3 & 2 of the max&mel.
[2] about 12' of 4 conductor feeder wire [same guage] to b, r, g and y.
[3] glue the emu to the top of the card socket with the conn hanging over the side
[4] tie a loose knot in the feeder wire [strain releif]
[5] pass the feeder wire thru the rear of the chassis and tighten the knot
[6] solder the DB9F to the end of the feeder wire:
b > pin5
r > pin2
g > pin3
y > pin5
[7] tin and connect the 4" wires to the mobo
[8] add a bit of hot glue gun to the DB9F and strain releif knot for protection. Add a plastic DB9 shell if you have folks that like to yank plugs instead of removing them...lol.
This makes a neat and durable internal max&mel that'll last you for years.
Hi JT
Thanks for the up!
Keep well

Kudo's to the builder...
I don't want to hijack this thread but wanted to ask if anyone's seen a Linux version of CEMU pop up yet???

ID site has Linux Cemu .....supports multiple IRD's on a single Linux box ...kind like the old Pitou ..
