Hi rubberman
Yes, I'm pretty sure that is what I used before the max&mel but a MAX232 is maybe $0.25 more.
[1] It should provide the ATR with a 1 chip flash
[2] MC1489 is not a true RS232 but worked on DTV emu with short cable runs.
What the hell, try it and let us know if your IRD smoked....lol!

i'll try one IRD with the 1 chip and try the 2nd IRD with this 2 chip setup and respond back.

It will work most likely, you may have a little freezing, but unless you're going with that design because you have those parts on hand and are not having to order anything, I would pay the 25 cents if I was ordering new stuff :-)

ok i have the atmel flash. I found an already modded TSOP/EEProm so i wrote those to the IRD and it gave me the new box keys and ird #'s. What about the camID, should i leave it as is? i got the IRD hooked up and turned it on. I didnt have the computer on yet cause i wanted to see the SYSTEM INFO stuff. it showed 3900upgraded, the new camID, IRD#, but where it shows DISHREADY. it didnt show anything. it was blank. does the computer need to be running to see that info?

[1] You should not have a CAMID without a card or emu running. S000000000
[2] Leave CAMID as is
[3] Dishready not available till system running

in nagraedit, i open the dish.bin file and click on the DATA EDITOR. it shows all 0's for camID, Box Keys, IRD #, TZ, ZIP. i edited the .ini with that info so do i need to enter the correct info the dish.bin too?

Unless you are using something other than Penga's flash #'s for your IRD, the dish.bin and other files I sent you are 100% as is.

It OK Rubberman
The camID, tiers and TZ and all will be pulled off the dish.bin file, you are gonna need to change the active key from what I told you the first time and there is a line you can also set the TZ in the dish bin, but because it's not a true Rom 10, you aren't gonna see the display you normally see on the boxkey screen, the editor section is all you will be in. or the patch section that still works the same.....
It so simple you are not seeing the forest because of the trees.
I had the same exact problem, I was trying to enter tiers and TZ's and stuff in Niagra, mostly because some posts that said I needed to that for it to work, you may have run across those posts and they will set you back a lot of time. I spent 3 days doing exactly what you are doing. Basically chasing my tail. One even said the keys were stored in the IRD's Eeprom. and that's where you changed them. They may be in there but that ain't how I changed them...
That PM I sent you was as close to step-by-step as I think you will find, if you read it closely, I don't know what I left out that shouldn't have you watching TV a little glitchy on that 1 chip by now.....
PM me if you have a particular problem, but Cancom told you straight, you don't need to do anything man, it's that simple, just change that active key from the change that occur the other day
