Well shut my mouth, after 3 days of trying everything I knew how to do, I finally got my AVR-X to reprogram to 1.05 with the new keys. You really need to make a sticky explaining that if the program appears to stop running and you get "program not reponding" that the program is in fact running even though the blue status bar stops at number 1.

That is correct, just leave it alone for 5 minutes even if it appears to be stuck at "Step 1 of 32", it will eventually come back to say programming is complete.

It's a mystery, but it will sometime do that.

No one ever reads the instructions. I am going to quit wasting my time writing them

I have read ALL the instructions on installation AND programing.
I have read EVERY post u have made and most all others posts regarding the errors with the AVR.

BUT I still can not get an answer on how to tell when the card is dead.
(see my other posts, I have tried everything and still error 019) ....ugh

Right now there is no way of telling if the card is really bad after you get the 019 error and you have tried the cleaning of the contacts, inserting a business card on top etc. Like i've said Mili needs to address this with the M man and see what shakes out. I have one that programs fine but has never worked on a receiver (i've tried 3 of them, but other AVR-X work fine in them so I know it is not the receiver and cable combination or Dish programming or the Bev programming the card is stuck on 019 so it's going back for a replacement.)

Ya I know that info was posted, I read it, that's how I finally got my card to re-program with the new keys. Yea I know, read , read , read. Some of us lazy bastards are just too damm lazy.
SJ, your instructions are very much appreciated, and are very helpful so please don't get discouraged. I think we all know that this is a work in progress and eventually the bugs will get worked out.

Just a suggestion.... Mine used to stick at '1 of 32'. What I did was this. Select the 2nd comm port option (0x0258 or something) and click program after putting in your tiers, password etc. Let it time out and give you an error. THEN select the parallel (option 1) and click program again. Works for me every time and I'll be damned if I know why.

There will always be those who read and those who don't
That is why reading rooms were invented!

I have posted that info about a bazillion times ever since the Magic Card came out with that exact same bug. But there are a lot of posts here and it's impossible to read them all.

That is one very bad bug in the program and probably everyone is going to encounter it eventually.

This advice, for what it's worth, is based on personal experience:)

Although not available to those with access to only one receiver and one AVRX, the simplest way to test is to A) Try the suspect AVRX in a known working IRD/AVRX unit, or B) Try a known working AVRX in the receiver you're getting 019 errors.

Most errors, although not all, are caused by faulty installations and/or programming. Most header FUBARS result in "card not valid", etc onscreen nags, and not 019. Once this is ruled out and you still have 019 errors with one particular card, try the obvious - clean contacts, wiggle card in receiver slot, do the business card thing.

If the little darlin' keeps giving you 019, email Mili and call FedEX. The more adventurous among us might be tempted to start soldering or otherwise tampering with the card, but bear in mind if you aren't successful in your efforts, you now have a trot line sinker. Translation: Warranty Void.

YUP,

Sometimes I have to put my card in and out half a dozen times to get rid of the 019, but it always goes away, for the first time I have a buss card on top, never needed one with magic.

This isn't a bad card, bad soldier or bad contacts. It's bad programming plain and simple. Know how I can tell?

When I program with 1.03 I get frequent freeze-up's, the machine will reboot and erase all my PPV events. I get the odd 019 error.

When I reprogram with 1.04 I get slightly less frequen freeze-up's, the receiver restarts and doesn't erase all my recordings. I get no error messages.

When I program with 1.05 I don't get any messages but anywhere from 1x/4 hours to 4x/hour the screen goes black on all chanels except previews. Pulling the card and putting it back in fixes the problems.

The card, contacts, cable and soldier remain constant. The only variable is the software.

I'm sure The Magician is working on the problem in his own lackluster way. When the problems are solved more cards will be sold and everyone will make more money. Thats how I know he's working on the problem.

BUT he won't be working on the problem if everyone just says "it's your contacts". It's not contacts or soldier or cables. It's Magician and his craptastic software.

Well DB, the cards are not perfect, the programs are far from perfect, and I am sure he knows it.
.
But we have to tell people somthing

And besides that and most of the time is is a CRAPPY SOLDER JOB ANYWAY.

Or they did not put the right program in for their P-xxx.

Or they put the cable on backwards.

Or they did not change the keys.

LOL
