Today I received this
Merry Christmas everyone: TODAY
Its not often that we are able to actually get a picture of the three of us together but here we were able. We had a great Christmas even though Chris awoke us at 5:00 A.M. so he could open his gifts. He liked everything and we even managed to surprise him with a few.
Chris has started his Radiation now and they are going to try 14 sessions / treatments of Radiation and then through scans determine if that will be enough or more Radiation will be needed. Chris is strong and doing fine through this whole ordeal. He's just glad that he has school vacation right now even though he studies with home schooling. Bettie is also doing well, well as well as can be expected. She still goes through times where she just can't believe that her baby has Cancer but she is the anchor of this family and how she organizes everything that has to be done is beyond me. Keep us in your prayers and God bless everyone.
Best Wishes,
Harry

Dear Friends: 9/4/2005 11:20:57 P.M. Eastern Standard Time
First and foremost Bettie and I wish to take this moment to thank each and every one of you who have sent us prayers for our son Chris.
We just spent the last three days in the hospital with Chris in order for him to get what they call an "Aggressive Hit" of Chemotherapy and Predizone. Right now it is the daily injections and pills along with this Tuesday will be his first visit to the Cancer Clinic (not the hospital) for another Push of Chemotherapy. Before that it was five days in the hospital for all of the tests biopsy'd and procedures that had to be done. Through it all Chris never once complained. Bettie and I just stayed at the hospital 24 / 7 and slept there until it was time to take Chris home...There were the two biopsy's done at the base of his neck and then they placed a Port in his chest so that they do not have to stab him every time with a needle then the MRI's, CAT Scan's, blood work after blood work after blood work, Bone Marrow procedures and Spinal Taps. The Tumor with Tentacles is wrapped around the insides from his heart to his throat but Chris is a tough kid . He of course asks "Why Me?", I am only 14 and now I have this disease. But that is good in its own way because he must get his hurt and hatred out of himself ... We are making the proper arrangements to have Chris schooled at home during this time. I ran a print copy of all the E-mails we have received from friends and people some who we don't even know but they also sent their prayers as well and I have it hung on the bedroom wall for Chris.
Chris (unlike his Mother) is a very quiet kid. He loves his video games and his RAP music (Which I still do not understand). He loves to play me in Chess or Poker. At the hospital he really got into playing for the first time table pool i.e. 8 Ball.
We are looking at many, many months of hard work keeping Chris as healthy as possible and thank God that Chris is working with us to beat this disease.
Anyway! Why I was writing other than to bring you guys up to date was that I had a thought (not too many these days) where if all of the people from all over the country who have sent their prayers could take a moment of their time and send Chris a postcard from the town, city, state where each one lives, that would really make it a sunshine day for him and he could line his walls showing that he has people everywhere praying for him to get well and back on his feet.
The address is as follows.
Christopher Edmiston
The Manors of Bryn Mawr
5477 Lake Margaret Drive--Unit E
Orlando, Florida. 32812
Once again, Bettie and I thank each of you for your prayers and well wishes.
Sincerely and God Bless everyone.
Harry & Bettie Edmiston
NOTE
For everyone. Before all of this. Chris came home from School one day and although he never complains, this day he said that he had a pain on his right side up high. I thought that it was most likely a Sprain from carrying his heavy school bag. Two days later and with a Mother's intuition Bettie said "Come on! we are going in for an X ray" and sure enough, there it was, this huge mass in his chest.
Its just a note that when it is your children do not take anything for granite. The doctors say, Thank God that Bettie had this inner feeling that brought Chris in for help from a professional.

as i said in my PM.... been there and done that and If this young guy needs to talk to someone who lived it , you know where to find me.

As I also said, I had just turned 20 and got diagnosed with Non hodgkins lymph. I am 30 now and have 2 kids even tough I went thru 14 months of (CHOP) chemo and radio.
My kids are miracles and so is my life.

I was lucky, I had someone to talk o that had lived the exact same thing, I'm here if he needs it!

Hate to see this happen to a child. I had surgery and 6 months of chemo. Campto and 5FU twice a week for 6 months ain't no fun. Hell, that 12 inch scar on my belly reminds me every morning. I remember saying back then that "It's better that I die of cancer at 30 than some child", the reality though is that anyone could get cancer. Anyhow, hope everything turns out ok, if I can help in anyway, please drop me a PM.
