I picked up a 2700 that some one was going to thorw it away. I thought a sector erase might to the trick but when a hook it up to Jkeys all i get is 0x0000000. Now I know my buffered Jtag is ok because tried it on a working ird and reads it fine. When I power up the 2700 there is no green light and there is a strange clicking sound. I would like to try and save if I could. Any thought?

loud clicking is normal, its a trait of these IRD's.

Does the IRD have any onscreen display? Usually burnt traces give 0xFFFFFFFF not 0x00000000. I would almost guess that the TSOP is hosed in it. desoldering it and soldering in a new one should fix that - but I am not sure that is the problem and its a lot of work if it can be recovered using the chip on the IRD.

Check for any JTAG connections not making contact correctly to surrounding pads, might be a cause.. maybe someone else can help you out more.

There is no on screen display and my other 2700 does not make that noise. I have also check and double checked for any solder bridges and shorts. There is none. Also I have that a reflash might fix it. Can I reflash a tsop that give 0x000000?

okay, I got 2 and they both make audiable clicks that can be heard from 15 feet away clearly while the TV is on, so I wouldn't worry about that yet.

If you tried all that and didn't find anything at all it has to be a corrupt TSOP of sorts. I don't think that you can reflash it with 0x00000000, is the ST5500/boxkeys/build config or anything being detected?

I think it might be a good IRD for reference or parts - 'uninvolved' recovery is looking slim at this time. If you can somehow remove the TSOP and reflash it in another IRD that may work as I said above but it really depends on what was done to the IRD beforehand. it could have been struck by lightning and fried the decoder chip. Who knows.
