Seems like they swapping sub 101s to ther new S0 series. It will most likely take out ROM 10 and Atmega based hacks. The sky is not falling though, they won't complete it til the end of summer.

Been going on for awhile. The new card appears to be hackable as well so just more cards for us to play with in circulation. New card doesn't have the channel logo's anymore.

Will That Kill Avr-x?
Thanks

No Dank, it won't effect the AVR-X....

Why would it take out ROM 10 and Atmega based hacks?

Current rom10 and Atmega hacks are based on rom101.

atmega can be flashed to 102?

My avr-x says its 101.

I don't think swapping the rom101 out will kill the AVR-X or Atmega or even the rom10, but I don't know for sure so don't quote me.;)

Atmega, Syndrom, AVR-X, are all based on Rom10 hack, if that hack is compromised so are all those cards.

Mpeg 4 is receiver based, Not card hack based so Mpeg 4 is the end of many ird models only however the fcc has the full date set in 2008 so I bet we will see both formats until then.
I'd get more excited at this point looking for a new dish 1000 setup as 105 and 121 will be history. The future will be 110,119 and 129 sats soon.

This swap is creating more worries than need be. I'd look more into the noncompatible ird's which are 1000,2000,3000,4000,5000,7100,7200.
This will not be supported with the 129 sat and be obsolete soon. All other models have the 129 ability although not all have been firmware updated yet for 129. We have 2 years before full blown HDTV when all will need it, Until then the fcc is allowing both systems to be operated.
Friends, We are testing here, Not subscribing so keep that in mind. It may or may not work always so if you want perfect jump the fence to legit. ( Well works??? Subs have issues also ).

heres my .02 cents

The only reason their swapping out the 101's is b/c they have issues changing keys. remember the first couple of key changes on n2? I think it was the first one, when charlie reverted back to the previous key set, (after they rolled). obivously this wasn't to accomodate the hackers. It was b/c some piece of hardware, (probably 101's) w/in their system didn't roll keys and the command center was flooded w/ pissed subscribers.

Now, once the 101 is swapped out, they will b able to speed up the encryption, which has been discussed on nearly every board. Also, they will be able to change the keys as frequently, if not more then bev does. Since Atmega, and rom10 can't roll keys, this change makes them prety useless if you have to manually change the keys every hour, or even more. Their has even been speculation as to whether FTA's can roll keys that fast. Mili had a post on front page regarding this issue. Shit, who knows if avr-x will even b able to handle the changes??? If sw keeps rolling out at the current snail pace, it doubt it!

All I know is that plastic, (rom102, 103 ect...) will always b rollin till the end of n2, provided they don't get looped. So many variables, but in my eyes, CURRENT (excluding old rom10's) plastic ALWAYS wins!!

Overall the main activity the last month by dishnet has been spent shifting channels and transponders around to gear up for the dish 1000 with 129 sat so 105 and 121 space need not be leased anymore.

Dman dude you always get all the new stuff ahead of time...How Do you get all the info ???? Even when everyone was speculating about nagra-2 cards. You actually posted that you were frying them faster than your eggs..Well always good to know someone knows about it..

We have come a long way since Penga's 1st N2 release.

I predict max&mel cemu with 102 Autoroll will be THE thing this fall.
Yes, I agree the stream should speed up when 101 is dropped but why is Bev not doing so now?

"plastic ALWAYS wins!!"? Here I stongly disagree as I'm emu ...go ahead & loop the data in my memory and see if I care...lol.

I thought the rom 10x is based on the 102 according to the file penga provided.
If they roll keys more often it will wipe out the rom 10 from practical point of view but the fta and 102 have autoroll so I do not see a problem. I do not buy the 101 being responsible for them not to roll keys, they have rolled keys just not very often. They said they will continue to phase out old cards for new ones. I have to question if they lose money on the swap since these cards cost them at most $5 each and the subscriber eventually pays for it.
Just as the rom 10 can emulate 102 so can 101 emulate a rom102 or 103 and still have room for autoroll.
This swap will not change anything as long as we get into the new cards as they come out.
I've noticed that the new smart cards (in general not necessaraly for dss) are contactless and dish will get to a point where the old receivers will not be able to use the new cards and contact cards will be phased out by smart card manufactures which will leave dish and bev up the creek as far as upgrades unless there will be a hardware change.
I see a bright future for the testing community regadless of card swaps.
