is it better to have the switch closer to the receiver or to the dish to increase the quality and channels you get

also i read on another thread that if you do a scan witht eh dish connected directly to the reciever you will get all the transponders where if u do it with the switch u will lose some of them.

lastly i have been having problems with the NHL and NBA channels. someone said that if u do a TP scan an hour before the game or duing the games the games usually show up or is that a lie

switches work best close to the receiver,
anytime you scan connect the satellite cable direct to the receiver(no switch).you will definitely get more channels.
if your receiver does not have an automatic transponder/channel update option(Coolsat and Viewsat do I believe and probably others) you can get the sports,Nhl,Nba games by doing a scan close to game time.
