Novice Question!

Is it necessary to have a card inserted in a receiver in order to determine if I can pick up 110, and 119?

it actually depends on the receiver, some old receivers will not let you get into the menu without a card inserted, if you turn off the receiver, turn it on and instantly hit menu, 6, 1, 1 on the remote before you see the "please insert smartcard" error you can get into the dish pointing screen, once you get into it if the insert smart card message does not come up making it impossible to see the screen then you can do it without a card.

I have my own newbie question. I have a Bev 3100 and my avr-x card is up and running fine. my question is do I need a subscription with Bev to be able to use this card.
