hi i have 501 and 301.013 irds
how could i tell if the dish 500 lnb will work with them>??

501 and 301 receivers will work with legacy or DP lnbs.........

if thats the case why am i not gettiong any signal when i hook up my 501 to dish 500 pro lnb??

You don't provide a lot of information but here goes anyway. First make sure you do a switch test without the satellite cable hooked up. This should put your receiver back into a state where it will recognize legacy or dishpro lnb's and switches.

i just did the switch test and its says installed switch is unknow with out any cable to the port on the back of ird which says satelite input?? and it still returned XXXXX and XXXXX

Now try the switch test again, but with the satellite cable hooked up. Hopefully it will recognize the switch.
