4900 can be a pain to update. I've had better luck putting a virgin card in them and checking switch to help with the updating. I've also just junkyard fixed them to force an update.

Ok, junkyard fix is what I would try. Connect SB39 and sb40 together and plug in receiver to power and keep sb39 and sb40 connected for about 3 seconds then unconnect them and just leave the receiver on and hooked up to the dish and it takes about 20 minutes of black screen with the light on before it is done downloading the software from the datastream.

Write new tsop to receiver. Then write virgin eeprom.. Then hook up to sat.
Did you edit your downloaded tsop file build config. to match yours??

i just found my original tsop so i put it on and its flashing so will see if it updates .yes i put same builds on .hope the orig works.
I did the same with a 301.010 all it did was flash for a long time then reboot.
Instead of writing a new tsop I read in another thread that somebody got thiers to update by sticking in a newer card. I tried a rom 10to102 then a 102 rev 103 and still no go.
Just for the hell of it I stuck in a avr-x and 5 minutes was updated.?
I think If I had of stuck in a current rev 102 it would have done the same.
When it wass flashing it was slow flashes when It was updating it flashed faster and shorter. FYI
